  I am updating a a site for a client. This will be my first project. How do I start creating a new website while keeping the old one up? Also he is currently waiting for his login info to get access to his domain. Do I need this before I can start or can I start creating a draft for his new site?

  How do I start creating a new website while keeping the old one up?

  You can create a new site under a temporary domain, and then when it’s ready you can point your client’s domain name to the new site. This way, your client’s old site is still up under the existing domain until the new one is ready.

  Also he is currently waiting for his login info to get access to his domain. Do I need this before I can start or can I start creating a draft for his new site?

  You can start creating a draft for his new site since it will be separate from his existing site.

  Where are you planning on hosting the new site?
