I have a website with web.com and want to change to wordpress…I own my domain name of rstevensinteriors.com – how to I make the change over without my old site going down before the new one goes up?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com allows import from other platforms including – Blogger, Israblog, LiveJournal, Movable Type, Posterous, Storylane, Tumblr, Typepad, WordPress, Xanga, and Yahoo! 360 – http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

I’m fairly sure web.com (?) isn’t a platform that can be “automatically” imported, so it would probably need to be a copy and paste from the old site to the new site.

As for “transferring” your domain, WordPress.com doesn’t do this. However there is a domain mapping service that costs $13/year, and that would be a solution for you.

    So the process roughly :

    1. Copy content to rstevensinteriors.wordpress.com from your existing site
    2. Setup the domain mapping so that rstevensinteriors.wordpress.com becomes rstevensinteriors.com

Hope this helps, and happy for any others to chip in and fill in anything I missed :)

    Cheers
