Creating Parent Pages

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, when I create a page with a parent page, the taskbar, in editing, says that the page has been created and its parent is on the main page; however, when you put your cursor around the the parent page or click the parent page, the ‘child’ page is not there. I do not know where it is! My Page editing page says that the page is there and is a ‘child’ but it’s not visible.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi flatbushlearningcenter,

Do you mean you are hovering over the parent page name in the menu on your website, and not seeing the child page?

If this is the case, this would be because you would need to manually add child pages to the menu – your theme default may possibly just be automatically adding top-level pages to the menu and no more.

The easiest way to do this would be to go to the WordPress dashboard for your site (flatbushlearningcenter.wordpress.com/wp-admin/), hover over ‘Appearance’ in the left-hand menu, and then click on ‘Menus’. Here you should be able to select and edit your menus (or create a new custom menu). To create a sub-item, drag the new child page over to the menu you are editing, then drag it underneath (and slightly to the right) of it’s parent page. It should drop itself with a slight indent.

In the default editor you would click on ‘Customize’ next to Themes, under your My Sites tab. You’d then click on Menus, and add a new menu from here.

If you save this menu the changes should then appear on your site.

    I hope this helps!
