Creating site with new domain name purchased from GoDaddy – already mapped?

    I am looking to create a site with a domain name I have purchased from GoDaddy. WordPress says that “the domain is already mapped to a WordPress.com site.”

    This is from the previous owner of the domain, I suppose, and when I search the domain it brings up an expired WordPress site. So, how do I get that site to be canceled so I can create a new one with this domain name that I now own??

    I faced a similar issue with one of my clients’ domains, and it was quite frustrating. The domain t ranks was still mapped to an old WordPress.com site, causing conflicts. I solved this by updating the DNS settings in GoDaddy and ensuring the domain pointed correctly to the new site. If the issue persists, contacting WordPress.com support with proof of ownership helps remove the old mapping.

    Hmm I guess in this case since there is no new site to update the DNS settings in yet I can’t do your fix. I’ll try to contact support about this.
