Creating site without domain name
-
Hello, I am doing a project for a class where I have to create a blog through wordpress, and the url has to be firstname.lastname.wordpress.com. However, when I try to create a blog, there is a step called ‘Let’s get your blog a domain’ which I cannot skip, and none of the options include the wordpress.com. What should I do?

I’m also curious about this.
I registered intending to mock up a site (to make sure WordPress does what I want/need before paying for a monthly plan & domain registration), but it’s blocking me on a step just before completion, forcing me to look up / sign up for a domain.

Ah, I see – for me at least, it’s tucking the ‘.wordpress.com’ option underneath the top row of ‘register a domain name’ ads, in the list of for-pay domain names. (I didn’t recall seeing it before, but went back to try again just in case I’d overlooked it, glad I did.)

@jeanneperreault1, try typing in the whole address you want to use, including .wordpress.com so, firstnamelastname.wordpress.com.
@lightningweave were you able to register the address you wanted?
@janicesara I have already replied to your own thread. -
staff-mckluskey Yup! Eventually figured it out, despite the UI confusion there. Thanks for checking!

@ fresatomica I have tried that, and it still doesn’t work – I see no option for .wordpress.com . I have even tried with random numbers, and still the only option it gives me for free are things like jeanneperreault1photography.photo.blog

Update – I was able to do it by choosing a free option, creating the website, and then going into the domain settings and changing it to wordpress.com
