creative commons attribution

I’m a bit confused about attributing work. A friend showed me how you can use image searches to find specific types of licensed images. I’d like to do this for a webpage I’m taking over for a local charity. I want to find images to add color and a personal touch that they currently lack. I’ve created a ‘free’ account to play with a mockup, this page: https://eleganteggs.wordpress.com/2018/05/12/the-journey-begins/ has several images on it that I picked up using bing’s search looking for ‘free to modify, share and use commercially’. I haven’t attributed any but now I’m thinking that’s wrong and I should be? But the more I try and figure it out, the more the different types of licenses are confusing the heck out of me! If I’m writing a post and using an image, it’s simple enough to find the source & attribute it within the post, but what about with WordPress’s header image feature? I wanted to have several images that rotate, so I look for images that have color & catch the eye, but I need to crop them in order to make them look best for the header. Is that considered a change? Is a registered charity considered ‘commercial’? Is embedding a small ‘attribution’ line in a corner of the header image sufficient?
