Creative problems with my blog.

    Hello,

Im having some creative problems with my blog. The subject of my blog is atheism and as an atheist I have views and opinions and I am unsure whether to present them in the blog or not. I always thought blogs were like diaries and not websites but I see a few blogs blurring the boundary between the two [website and blog].
Should my blog be personal? Should it be informative? Or should it be a mish-mash of both? I
m trying to be consistent and uniform but it is difficult to keep up writing like that everyday. Should I explode onto the scene or should I take it one step at a time and gradually come out from behind the curtain?
Does any body care? Does it matter if one`s blog is utter chaos?

It can be anything that you want. Heck we’ve got a blogger around here who posts screen captures from Kim Possible episodes and adds in new captions and makes fun of the show. I always though he was strange…

    Hope this helps,

I would like people to take me seriously but I guess I could stop being fussy about my blog and just relax and let everything flow.

Best bet would be to discuss serious topics then. One of our regulars here in the forums, Vivian Paige blogs about issues that occur in Norfolk. Timethief blogs about blogging and stuff important to her.

It can be as serious as you want it to be and as fun as you want it.

You should be you. Address the readers you want to have a dialogue with from the beginning. What point is there in having readers from an other segment than the one, you are interested in? If your opinions are not fine enough fore some of them, they are welcome to find another blog to read. Right?

Besides you risk that the readers, you really want go and find themselves other blogs with more “power” in the text. That would be a tragedy! :-D

    Thanks for the advice.

I know that I won`t be able to keep on writing like this. Perhaps I should pull the blog?

If folks leaving you comments is the issue, you could always turn them off for your blog. I believe it’s one of the options at Dashboard -> Options -> General.

I speak from experience when I say that if you kill the blog, you will regret it later. Just leave it dormant for awhile if you find the haters getting to you. Some of the most prominent bloggers in the world are evangelistic athiests (Pharyngula for one) so you’re not alone. Maybe try to tap into that community and even when you are attacked you’ll find that someone has got your back.

Your blog can be whatever you want it to be, however you want it to be. Just as long as it’s not child porn or stuff like that.

What, specifically, is the problem? Blogs are stream of consciousness, even the really big ones, so I wouldn’t worry about a “media strategy” or consistency in anything but belief system. Is the problem anticipated hostility? Heat/kitchen: only you know if you’re up for it. Is the problem that your internal editor won’t let go? Get used to writing first drafts and hitting “Publish” and getting over it and correcting yourself later when you see that you’ve made a mistake. Blogs are great for teaching you humility and being open to other viewpoints.
