  However, the promo code doesn’t work at checkout. How can I secure the advertised discount?

  You should get a 10% discount after pasting the code in the checkout but, in case this doesn’t work, just reach out via https://wordpress.com/help/contact after you’ve paid and well refund the 10% of the price of your plan :).
