Creator Plan Capabilities and Specifications

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

We’re thinking of migrating our existing WordPress website (stluciatimes.com) to your Creator plan on wordpress.com (https://wordpress.com/pricing/).

However, we’re averaging approximately 790,000 views from over 150,000 readers on a monthly basis.

We want to know if your Creator plan can handle our current traffic. Our site is 10GB in size. Of course, we understand that capability is also based on how optimized the site is, etc. We just need to know if your plan can typically handle that kind of traffic. Or a better question may be what kind of traffic can it handle?

Additionally, I can’t seem to find any specifications (except storage size of 50GB) regarding your hosting plans (Cloud, CPU, RAM, Storage nVME or SSD, etc). The information provided is very vague. See https://wordpress.com/pricing/?compare=1#lpc-pricing

Can I be provided with the hosting details? Maybe it’s buried somewhere deep on the site and I can’t find it.

    Regards,

    Rafa

Scroll down on https://wordpress.com/pricing/ untill you see ‘Compare Plans’ and click that button and you’ll see all features of our plans.

Hi. Thanks for your response. I’ve already clicked that button and seen the list of features. However, like I mentioned before, my query is two fold:

    1. Id like to know what kind of traffic the Creator plan can handle. This kind of query is typical of all new buyers…after all, we need to understand what we’re committing to before buying. This is especially if we’re running a high traffic site. There’s no point migrating only to find out the plan is not a good match.
    2. The features mentioned are pretty vague. We wanted to know if we can get more details (which are mentioned above).

    Hi there!

We don’t put any traffic limit on WordPress.com sites. All WordPress.com sites on all plans are capable of unlimited bandwidth/traffic, which means your site can handle the traffic you’re getting. :)

As for your other question, please check out the following links:

Hope that helps! If you’re ready to upgrade, please use the button below.

Feel free to let us know if you have more questions.

Thanks. The link to hosting details is pretty vague; there’s no mention of what the base level resources are (RAM, CPU).

However, the PHP information helps a little. Appreciated.

    Rafa

    Hey, @rwnin!

You can check this independent performance review:

    https://wphostingbenchmarks.com/company/wordpress-com/

It’ll provide more technical details 😊

This is perfect. That’s what I wanted 🙂

Btw, is there anyone who can tell me how much base RAM the Creator site comes with? I know that it’s scalable, but how much would I get to start?

Or is that a well guarded secret?

  • Or is that a well guarded secret?

Perhaps! I can’t seem to find it, but will ask around to see if that’s something we’re willing to put out there.

But for now I can say WordPress.com hosting scales beautifully. We’ve had folks move off our services only to come right back again to handle their traffic needs. Our systems team is top notch. For sites with VERY high traffic, you might enjoy reading this shoutout from an engineer at Time.com, who uses our VIP hosting.

  • @rwnin I wasn’t able to find the “starting ram” info yet. I asked around; they reiterated we really don’t publish a starting amount because our business model does not charge you to scale up. It just happens dynamically as needed.

But to address your concerns, I did ask specifically whether there are sites that are not on VIP, just regular WordPress.com Creator plans, getting heavy traffic like you anticipate, and yeah it shouldn’t be an issue. There are sites that get more than a million views daily that operate nicely. Hoping that and the independent review above are helpful!

Hey @supernovia…really appreciate thay you understood my concern and thanks for your feedback. Yes..I was just worried about such a comparatively low-priced option would be able to handle my traffic especially with no specifications published.

Thanks for mentioning that there are high traffic sites running on the Creator plan. That definitely puts me at ease.

You all have been super helpful (as usual) and the final response from @supernovia was the most reassuring.

It would be nice if some more specs were published in the future though…just saying 🙂

  • Thank you @rwnin. I could see where you were coming from and I’m glad that’s a bit more reassuring. And:

No promises or ETA right now, but I’d bet something like that would be helpful for others who are switching over, too. I’ve done some nudging & am hopeful we can get something like that out there. Cheers!
