Credits/links in reblogs
-
Is there any way you can ensure that embedded links and photo captions are included in reblogs? It needs to be done. Yesterday I published a copyrighted photo with a brief bit of text. The photo URL, its caption, and my text all linked to the photographer’s website. Links were part of my agreement with him that allows me to reprint his photos. When another blogger reblogged the post, the photo and all my text (not just an excerpt) were copied — but without the photo caption or any of the links. This violates the copyright of the photographer and my agreement with him.
I’ve given up fighting you about reblogging, but if you’re going to allow it, you need to make sure it includes all links, captions, and photo credits.
My post is at https://piedtype.com/2017/04/16/easter-sunday/

P.S. Also, the reblogged photo is badly cropped and thus not a fair representation of the professional photographer’s beautiful composition. And the cropping cut off the stamp in the corner that identified one of the photographer’s websites.

Hi @windwhistle,
That post was not reblogged. Reblogging only ever posts an excerpt of the original post, and there is absolutely no way for the reblogger to make changes to that excerpt. If you were to delete the post, or switch off reblogging on your site, that excerpt will disappear from the reblogged post on the other user’s site.
Reblogging also generates a comment on your post that says [username] reblogged this on [site] and commented…
There is no such comment on your post.
It appears this user manually copied your post into a new post on their site, and linked back to your post generating a pingback, not a reblog comment. There is no way to prevent someone manually copying your content in this way.

Could it have possibly been shared through the Reader, which allows you to reblog a post from a site you are following?

I turned off reblog a long time ago. And I’ve complained before about it not picking up photo credits. And it will take an entire post if that post is short enough, as mine was. But no, it didn’t generate a comment (is that done automatically now? It didn’t used to), but it did generate a ping. I don’t know if the user reblogged from the Reader but if so, I must object vehemently to someone being able to reblog one of my posts without even coming to my blog.
I did comment on the other blog and added all the credits and links. I contacted the other blogger, who was very apologetic and also added a comment with links.
Anyway, thanks for responding.
