Supernovia, First page- A Snow covered Mountain Peak (Mt. Rainier) picture across the top Subject to finding one like we had. What’s next?
    Allan

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi! I found your new thread. :)

One pattern I noticed in the old threads is that you’d send lots of questions piled into one big post. We would try to answer, but by trying to do too much at once it became confusing and you would not complete the instructions. So, one step at a time is good!

I will also try to use the information you’ve sent in the other post as we work.

Our first task before we can continue with further instructions is to create a static front page.

    1) Visit the site you want to edit

    2) Go to My Site > Customize > Home Page Settings

    3) Select “A Static Page”

    4) Select the page you created.

    5) At the top, click “Publish”

Then come back here to let me know that much is done.

Supernovia, Re – creeksideinsumner -: another HOA Member has come forward and volunteered to substitute for me in setting up the Website. His name is Paul Walters; his email (email visible only to moderators and staff). I have given him the url for this forum thread, to follow up with you on. He is not convinced that the creeksideinsumner has been transferred from GoDaddy to WP, although I given him copies of our conversation evidencing that. He is still investigating the Transfer. I’ve given him copies of our former thread which shows the transfer. Presumably you will be hearing from him next. I do know that he has an inclination to go back to GoDaddy where our original site was. I have recommend against that, but in the event he insists on that I will have to pay WP, for wasting your loooong time. I do not expect a refund in that evident. Hopefully he’ll take up with you right here. I’ll l be observing to see so please, if or in what ever way is possible, copy me on your ongoing correspondence here. If he does Not follow up with you will get back to you to arrange for closing with WP. Allan Avery

  • Hi @allanmerry, actually if he’s willing to work over chat, that’s probably easier. Would you like to transfer the account to him?

Supernovia, Not yet. He apparently was involved in some way when the Association’s site was set up over a decade ago on GoDaddy. He has to recommend to the Board whether to stay here with WP, or switch back to GD. And I get that he wants to go back. I’ve strongly advised him to stay here with WP. If the Board allows him to go back to GD, then I’ll have to close out with you and Pay my Debt. I truly believe we’d get a better site, for the added use and capabilities that weren’t foreseen back then. But it’s his call now. He tells me that GD says they still own the domain. But they haven’t let him in there yet because I don’t have- didn’t keep?- a GD pin required. If he had only come forward a year ago when we advertised in the Membership for help. If the Board decides we’ll stay Here, then we’ll need to transfer him to you. As you’d guess I feel like a bum with this if it goes the wrong way. My ignorance is really one case that justifies that you have a Tip Account. I’ll report to you as soon as I know more. Bless you all. Allan

  • Thanks Allan. Do try sorting out the domain situation with GoDaddy.

And I’m sure with Paul we could accomplish some neat stuff.

Did you ever delete the extra copy of the site here as advised in the other thread? I had included a link and everything.

    Supernovia,
I’m pretty sure I tried, but I see that both the two creeksideinsumner sites are still there in MySites, and both open up to different screens.

Again, of the two: creeksideinsumner.com or creeksideinsumnerorg.wordpress.com

Which is the one that should be kept? Which ever- can you tell me again how to delete the other please? Or is it possible you can do it for us? THANKS !!

  • Or is it possible you can do it for us?

I can’t do that. But I did provide instructions. Here’s a link to delete the correct site:

    https://wordpress.com/settings/general/creeksideinsumnerorg.wordpress.com

Click on that link. Click delete. Click the confirmations. Please let me know when you’e done that :)

Supernovia, A few minutes ago I started a new thread on this domain, the Homeowners Association one, because I could not find this one. (As always for why I couldn’t find I don’t know) Anyway I don’t know if it worked or not. Rather than repeat all, I’m going to hope it did get to you. It was an update on the New guy taking my place. (Paul Walters, (email visible only to moderators and staff) He’s been told that taking it back to GoDaddy (GD) would get credit for the $797 that we thought was lost. So he’s studying everything And says he needs MY WP “account Number” for THAT domain, to get in to talk to you, which I never recorded.) He’s going to make a recommendation- soon- to our Board, which way to go: stay here, or go back to GD. He’ll contact you for sure. The one thing I forgot to tell you in that last attempted msg is that If he decides on GD, I WILL PAY All the Charges I have incurred at WP. So I’ll need a bill after in that case. If it turns out that that way, I’m truly SORRY for all your time I’ve wasted. MY other concern is that my BLOG STAYS with WP, and I’ve lost my thread with Liz Karkowski for it. All those threads end TOPIC CLOSED. Can you advise my how to restart with her? I won’t be anywhere near the pest I was before, but there are a few, probably simple, things I may need there. THANK YOU ALL. Allan

  • Hi Allan, would you like to continue via a single email thread instead? That may be easier than trying to keep track of forum threads. You could also CC Paul that way.

Supernovia, I’m going to be completely out of the HOA Website. When the Member who’s taking my place gets a decision from the Board whether to go back to Godaddy or stay here he will notify you. If the decision is for GoDaddy, WordPress will need to submit ME a bill for the charges due up to that point. I truly regret all the time I’ve wasted for you and others.
For me going forward I will need continuing help with my Blog : our-place-in-the-cosmos Liz Karkowski has the most time invested in me with that, but that thread is so long she’s certainly entitled to a break from me. As are you. Hopefully the Blog help won’t be so looooing going. Either of you still willing, just let me know.

  • No worries, @allanmerry. We’re here to help.

I think we could be most effective over email or chat. But we can use the forums too. If we do, let’s try this:

    – Put one “problem” in each thread, and just work on one problem at a time instead of working on lots of problems at once
    – Do not create multiple threads for a single problem
    – Do work through the steps we send before moving on to another issue

I think if we do that we can stay organized and help you get the blog up and going as you’d like.
