‘critical error’

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello!
My website is completely down, and when you visit it, there’s a message that reads ‘There has been a critical error on your website.’ How do I fix this? Would love to get my website up and running again asap. Thanks!

    Hi there,

Please could you share the URL of your site? That way we can see if the same happens for us, and if need be staff will be able to help you.

Just a reminder that this forum is for WordPress.com hosted websites. If you use the open-source WordPress software (WordPress.org), you’ll need to go to their forum to get help: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and the WordPress software you can read the support post:
    https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

If you are on WordPress.com, if possible please could you also tell us:
Which browser(s) you used (Chrome, Edge, etc.)
    Which versions they are
If they have any extensions enabled
What operating system your computer is using (Microsoft Windows, etc.)

    Thank you!

    The URL is lolacreative.com
    Definitely WordPress.com

We have tried on Chrome, Edge, and Safari.
I only know the version of Chrome, which is 83.0.4103.61
There are extensions enabled, but no new ones, and this has never been an issue before.
We are using both Windows and Mac.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi there,

I’ve just visited the site lolacreative.com and it brought me to a website called ‘Lola Creative’ – the homepage said:

Plan. Design. Build. Events & experiences with a big “wow” factor.

Is this the correct site? If it is, please could you double-check that it is still showing an error message?
I was viewing it on Chrome, Edge and Explorer. My Chrome version is slightly different to yours (.97 instead of .61 at the end, although I don’t know how much difference that makes) which could have something to do with it, possibly? I’d recommend updating your browsers, and seeing if the site starts working again; this may help solve the problem.

Also, I looked on whoishostingthis.com, and it looks like lolacreative.com is hosted with Squarespace. I’ve made mistakes about this in the past, so please correct me if I’m wrong, but from what I understand all websites hosted with WordPress.com use Automattic. (Please tell me if this isn’t correct!) If I am correct, you may wish to reach out to Squarespace for further assistance. I think you can do this by going to https://forum.squarespace.com/.

If the website you need assistance with is hosted with WordPress.com, and after updating your browsers the error message is still appearing, please tag this thread with ‘modlook’ so that staff can help fix the problem. (Temporarily disabling any extensions may also help.)

Thank you for your patience! :)

  • @writer0001, you are right, the site is not hosted on WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted elsewhere.

    @alanalolacreativecom
, because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, we can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

You can look for help at the community forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ or at the link @writer0001 provided above.

http://wordpress.org/support/ is also a great resource for sites using the open-source WordPress.org software.
