Critical Error
-
Hello,
I have a WordPress website that was originally built by a vendor eight years ago. Unfortunately, the vendor is no longer in business and is unable to provide support.
The website was not constructed correctly, and we needed to make some changes to it. To do this, we hired a freelancer on Fiverr. However, during the process, an error occurred when the freelancer uploaded a modified
functions.phpfile, resulting in a critical issue. Here’s what I currently know about the situation:
- The hosting provider is Squarespace, and they have implemented security measures with Cloudflare. However, we don’t have the necessary credentials (username and password) to make adjustments in that environment.
- The vendor did not set up “Recovery_mode_email” in WordPress.
- We only have access to phpMyAdmin.
Is there a way to recover the website using phpMyAdmin, set up FTP access to edit the
functions.phpfile, or obtain a recovery link through this method?Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hello! 👋🏼
You didn’t provide us with any site URL, but it sounds like your site is a self-hosted WordPress site, not hosted on WordPress.com (you can read about the differences here) — I couldn’t find any sites in your WordPress.com account.
💡 Please note, this forum is for WordPress.com sites, and we can’t provide help for self-hosted WordPress sites.
I suggest asking your question in the WordPress.org support forum:
There is a great community of WordPress.org users who can probably help you out there.
