Critical Error
-
I was updating Plugins and now the website is down, stating a ‘critical error’.’
I have absolutely no idea what to do. Can’t code. I need Word Press support that can fix this for me. -
Hi there angeowen!
This is most likely a plugin that is not compatible with the current WordPress version. Is your site hosted on an outside host? Or on WordPress.com?
-
-
No problem. We’ll get there. What is the web address for your site?
And do you have a developer? Or did you create the site?
-
It’s: http://www.itsnowornever.org.uk
It did have developers and these guys created the initial site for the organisation.
Then volunteers were brought into carry on developing it etc to cut costs. And developers no longer involved. Just amateurs creating new pages, content, maintenance etc. I’m one such volunteer. -
It looks like it is hosted with 20i (https://www.20i.com/). Is that still the case?
If you have access to the hosting admin, you can rename the plugins folder. Then if you know which plugin update broke the site, delete that plugin file, then rename the plugin folder back to the original name. That will get you back into the WP-admin page.
Here is a link to help explain the process:
https://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-deactivate-all-plugins-when-not-able-to-access-wp-admin/
Sometimes if you chat with your host (20i), they will help you through the process.

Thank you so much for your time. I’ll take a look at the link & see if I can methodically work through process 😨
I think I’ll contact 20i in that case too. It’s the best I can do.
Thank you!
