Critical Error

Wowee, how frustrating. I am trying to make some tiny edits on my website. I was able to log in, and it notified me that my version of wordpress needed updating. Upon pressing the update button, I was taken to an incredibly helpful error page with the following message:

There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.
    Learn more about troubleshooting WordPress.

Clicking on the troubleshooting link takes me to all sorts of information, which is not really relevant to me, as I can’t access any links in the admin section without receiving this message. I’m still able to update my account, and have updated all my plugins, but the error still remains.

Can I please get some guidance on how to solve this, short of having to install phpadmin. Thanks!
