Critical Error

Good morning, I was editing our homepage when I received the critical error message and that instructions had been sent to an admin email (which is now defunct). Are these instructions available anywhere else?

    WP.com: Unknown
    Jetpack: Unknown
    Correct account: Unknown

  • What is the URL of the site you are trying to access? We’ll be happy to take a look and see if we can help.

  • Hi there,

Your site is not hosted on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress.org software at another hosting provider. So we don’t have any access to or control over your site, meaning our ability to help is very limited here :)

This error is usually caused by a plugin, typically if something went wrong during an automatic update. If you disable all plugins on the site directly in the database via your hosting control panel, you should be able to access the dashboard again. Then you can re-enable them one at a time until things break again to find the one causing the issues. Then contact support for that plugin for next steps – sometimes simply deleting and reinstalling the plugin does the trick, but that won’t work if the plugin itself is broken.

You can find the documentation on this for your version of WordPress here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/article/common-wordpress-errors/

For more advice on this you can ask the WordPress.org community who makes the WordPress software, in their forums here:
