Critical error caused by a plugin

My site is down, and it’s due to a critical error in a plugin. I tried clicking on the recovery mode link in the email I received from WordPress, but it doesn’t work — it just says my site has experienced a critical error. How do I get in and deactivate the bad plugin if recovery mode won’t work?
