  • Hello,

I have verified that your site is not hosted on WordPress.com. In this case, you use the self-hosted version, the software of which is available on WordPress.org.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org sites are different. Check it out: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org

This forum is only focused on sites hosted on WordPress.com.

You can contact your host directly to get help with your issue: https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/

WordPress.org community forums can be a good place to ask for help with this:http://wordpress.org/support/forums

    I hope that helps!

    Hello,

Is there a way that I can switch from wordpress.org to wordpress.com? That is what I intended to do since I am a novice and do not understand most of the additions, plug-ins etc.

    Thank you!

  • Hey there,

It’s totally possible to switch from WordPress.org to WordPress.com.

First of all, can you tell me if you’re looking to move just the content or are you looking to move the site as is?

Additionally, are you able to provide more context about the site itself, and what you’re hoping your users will do when they visit the site?

The reason why I ask is because, it sounds like you may not need plugins if admittedly these are causing extra confusion.

We can look to put together next steps as simply as possible to make that transition as pain free as possible.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

    Hello,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I would like to move the contents, if that’s the simplest way to deal with it. I am using WordPress to introduce new products for my Etsy store. I would like to include a sign up for a newsletter and add an ecommerce store with different products than what my Etsy store carries.

    Thanks again for your help!

  • @peacefulangelf050eaab70 , thanks, that additional context is helpful. Do you have a store set up currently, or is that something you’ll be adding later?

You’ll also want to fix the critical error first so you can access the site and wp-admin, which is necessary even for importing the site here. Please ask your host for help with this guide on fixing errors, or this troubleshooting guide if needed.

Then, once the site is working again, please update us here. We’ll know more about what to recommend when we can see the site.

    Hello,

The site is up again. I am going to put the store in later once I learn the basics. I would like to set up a sign up for a newsletter for my Etsy store. Thank you!

  • Awesome! I think it’s smart to start out as you’ve outlined. Get everything moved over to WordPress.com and use your existing Etsy store. Once you’re feeling more comfortable start working on setting up your own eCommerce store and you’re going to make more money by not having to give up commission to Etsy. I know that can be an intimidating step, but our team is here to help you! We want to see folks succeed!

Now you’re ready to move the site it’s time to figure out which hosting plan will suit your current needs. These plans can be upgraded/downgraded at any point. For example, if you start out on the premium plan now, you can upgrade to the business plan later when ready to build that store directly on your site. And if you upgrade before the expiration date of the current plan you would only pay the difference between the 2 options, not the entirety of the upgrade.

The plans also have built in savings when you pay for the annual price versus paying monthly. We know that saving money is important for every small business. Take a look at the plans here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/ and let us know if you have any questions. I’d suggest starting on the premium option. You’ll be able to connect your domain and move the site.

I mentioned the business plan earlier which includes the infrastructure you need for using plugins. That also means that you can use a migration plugin to move the current site over which will save you some time.
