CRON job for wp.com site

    Is there a real, server powered CRON that can be set up on wordpress.com so that scheduled posts are triggered on time by it for example?

    Hi there,

    The way scheduled posts work is built into the open source WordPress software made by the community on WordPress.org. We haven’t changed that behaviour in any way in our implementation here on WordPress.com.

    If it’s possible to trigger scheduled posts via a custom CRON job, you should be able to do it using a plugin on our Business Plan as explained in the thread linked to above, but you’d need to test that to make sure.

    If you believe the system for scheduled posts can be improved, please open a forum thread over on WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/, or even open a trac ticket or submit a patch to do this. Once an update like that is included in a future WordPress release, it would automatically become available here on WordPress.com as well.

    @amirudra789    : thanks for the help, from what I understand from the linked topic wordpress.com doesn’t offer a way of setting server-side CRON triggers for their clients and the topic links another service for this which is not included with wordpress.com or did I miss-understood it?


    @kokkieh    : the CRON system in the WordPress software is triggering scheduled events but it cannot do it without the site being accessed. So for it to run even when the site doesn’t have users to access it, it is recommended to set up a CRON job event on a server that will access the site and because of that also run the actions scheduled in the WordPress CRON system.
    Most hosting providers offer this in their CPanel or site administration area. I was wondering if wordpress.com also offers something like this.

    This is not something to be improved in the WordPress software is strictly a question from the hosting WordPress sites perspective.

    We don’t offer an option to do this on WordPress.com. While you do have some control over server configuration on our Business Plan, setting up your custom CRON events directly on the server is not possible. But it should be possible using a plugin, as explained in the other thread.
