Crossposting from wordpress to livejournal… can it be done via web?
-
I am considering starting a private blog on wordpress for my upcoming wedding. However, I have quite a few friends on LiveJournal who do not have a wordpress account, therefore, they can’t follow me strictly here.
Both places would be private, and LiveJournal would not be indexed by search engines by default, so I’m NOT worried about ‘dual infomation,’ as this would be the whole premise.
I’d prefer NOT to have to install a wordpress client on my machine to use a plugin to achieve this.
Is it possible to cross-post by default any entries made here to the private LiveJournal via web?
Thanks!

No – a Private blog here has no RSS feed so no putting a feed in your live journal site – all viewers of a Private blog here need to have a WordPress.COM account and be invited into the Private Blog here –
You could copy and paste some of the content if you want, but that would be the only way I can think of to share the content

So, it’s impossible to make an entry here and have it automatically show up in the private LJ by default?
*sigh*

Well, there is the third privacy option here on WordPress.com where no one would need an account to view. It depends how very private you want your information to be:
(well according to the Support article, it’s actually the second, not the third, option)
- Allow search engines to index this site. – This is the setting used by most blogs. It allows everyone to read your blog and enables your blog to be included in search engine results and other content sites.
- Ask search engines not to index this site. – If you want all human visitors to be able to read your blog, but want to block web crawlers for search engines, this is the setting for you.
- I would like my blog to be visible only to users I choose – Select this option to create a private blog. If you want others to be able to view your private blog (and add comments, if you’ve enabled them) you’ll need to invite them to be a viewer.
That second option would allow you to have a feed to Livejournal.

Thanks Tess – yes option 2 would work fine for the OP if they don’t mind having their blog open a bit – and much easier for their friends to follow – no need for an account

You could also look into a newsletter service, for example MailChimp. Then you could just email updates on your wedding progress as you go along. People could email you pictures which you would then have to upload/include in your newsletters.
The advantage is no one needs to sign up for an account, they only need give you their email addys.
The disadvantage is that you have to add pictures and comments yourself where on a blog, your friends, relatives and guests can comment and interact with each other.Plus: mailchimp is free (unless you get really really corporate about your wedding and want to upgrade to a pro-account).

@auxclass,
Yes, well, there are so many blogs and stuff online, the search engines really ignore that option. I have a couple of those “semi-private” sites and no one looks at them (according to the stats) unless I tell someone to look. For a wedding, I’d go for that option (though if daughter gets married, I hope she elopes…LOL) -
None of these ideas are really cutting it for me.
I guess copy & paste is going have to be how I do it.
Thanks anyway!

That’s fine. Sorry we couldn’t help more, but best wishes for a happy marriage!
