Cryptojacking & wordpress.com security tips

    So cryptojacking occurred for some wordpress blogs. That is using a web site and user’s computer for intensive calculation processing for cryptocurrencies (bitcoin transactions).

    The above link is from national Canadian news source.
    The reference to wordpress blogs is for wordpress.org blogs or?

    Would appreciate any tips..for bloggers.

    I expect that link is talking about WordPress.org sites and most likely dead sites that have never had any older plugins updated and aren’t using the latest version of the WordPress.org software (4.9.4?). Of course we’ve always needed to be careful where we go on the Wild Wild Web. I assume you’ve read this: https://en.support.wordpress.com/security/

    I can confirm that does not apply to WordPress.com sites – we automatically delete the code that’s used for this type of malware if someone tries to add it to a site.

    And even with the self-hosted WordPress software, as long as you keep the software up to date and follow best practices in terms of site security it’s highly unlikely that your site would become infected with this type of malware – that’s actually stated in the article you linked to.
