CSS Coding

Hey all! I have used css in the past but I am trying to add a new theme to my new blog and my page isn’t looking like the theme I have chosen. It has some features but not all. Not sure I am setting it up correctly. Any input as to which codes I am needing to use? When I use the validator, I keep ending up with errors. Thanks in advance.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I see you are using Didi theme. I believe you would not have to use code in order for your website to look like an example shown on theme page :)

Instructions to set-up your theme to look like in an example are located here

I currently see that your home page displays “nothing found” – that is happening because there are no blog posts on your page.

If you would like your page to look exactly like this demo – you would have to:
    1) Set a static home page instead of blog posts.

    2) Add some text (and possibly a button) to your home page.

Navigate to Pages and open your home page. Inside the editor, add the content you want to show in the main area.

Add a featured image and assign “Front template”

To add a button, use HTML code: <a class="button" href="google.com">Google</a>

    3) Navigate to Customizer → Widgets → Front Page First Block
Add widgets you want to show in the first widget area. Didi comes with two custom widgets, the Didi Recent Posts Widget and the Didi Promo Block Widget. With the Recent Posts Widget you can choose the number of posts you want to show, the number of columns (two, three, or four), and the category.

    4) You will need blog posts with images of right size to make these four columns. Then you can add “Didi recent posts” widget to “Front Page Second Block”

After that you can add more widgets to footer area, or you could even choose “Grid template” if you don’t like how it looks.

As I said, full instructions are here . If something isn’t clear or you can’t get it to look like you want – we volunteers as well as staff can help you with CSS customization.

    Happy blogging!

Thank you for your reply. Not sure how it’s Didi when I purchased a theme from another site and have been trying to enter css coding for it and it’s not looking the way it’s suppose to. This is a new blog, so I understand there isn’t anything there yet but now I am concerned because I have a blog theme that I purchased and have entered in. I have been blogging for some time but this is the first time I have used wordpress. I didn’t realize I would be having these kind of issues that I can’t work out.

  • Can you confirm that we are talking about momizthebomb.com ?

I can see from the source code that the theme there is Didi:

Also what is the name of the theme you purchased?

If we are talking about momizthebomb.com – you should be able to set it up to look like the original demo by following the instructions above or set-up instructions.

If it is a different website and different theme – please post a link to that website.

Yes, I am talking about momizthebomb.com. I purchased the theme from another site and the theme is called Hello Kate. So I believe I have have to enter the css code since I only have the premium subscription?

  • Since you have Premium upgrade you can only choose from themes on WordPress.com repository, free or premium. In order to be able to upload custom themes (and plug-ins as well) you will have to upgrade to Business plan. Once you do so, you will be able to upload files of your purchased theme from “Themes” tab in your admin area:

Well…dang it!!!! Thanks for trying to help me! I was told I could use the css coding rather than using the upload bar since I have the premium plan.

  • You might be able to get a similar appearance using CSS, although it would really be a lot of work.
And since features of Didi and Hello Kate are different – it wouldn’t be quite the same thing as actually uploading the theme. I mean, when we get a theme, we do it to avoid having to re-style some other theme that we don’t like so much, right?
Your other option would be to upgrade to Business plan and upload the theme, that would be much easier and quicker :)
