CSS Edits

I understand the mechanics of making changes in CSS using the editor. If I go to someone else’s computer and view the web site and it different in terms of the changes on MY SITE that I made. Why is there a discrepancy from what I see? I am very confused.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, can you be a bit more specific about what you are seeing different and the operating system and browser on the other computer, and I’ll be happy to look into it for you.
I do see some things in your custom CSS that we will change, but first off it would be great to have more information.

I would love to send you some screen shots from my computer so that you could pull up the site and compare. Unfortunately I am not able to do so in this format.

Hi, you can upload the screenshots to your media library and I can look at them there if you wish, or you can use a file sharing service, such as http://cloudup.com and then just get the direct URLs to those images and paste them into a reply in this thread and I would be happy to take a look.

Hello,
I have uploaded some screen shots as pictures into my media library.
I want the categories About Fife, Products and Services etc, to have the blue border and look like my screen shots. When you view my site, you will see something different than what appears in the screen shots.
Under Products and Services (sub-header: Ethanol Process Additives, Cooling and Boiler Water Treatment and Waste Water Treatment Chemicals) you will see that they are shaded blue in my screenshots. I would like for this to be transparent because I have some photos that I want to be visible.
On the contact page, I want all fields to be blank yet it shows some of my contact info. I assume that an interested outside party would fill in this information and then it would be sent to me. Is this correct?Your help is great appreciated.

Paul, thanks a lot for the screenshots.
I want the categories About Fife, Products and Services etc, to have the blue border and look like my screen shots.
Let’s start with this, which will give the blue background to all page titles.
.page #page-header h1 { background-color: #002469 !important; }Under Products and Services (sub-header: Ethanol Process Additives, Cooling and Boiler Water Treatment and Waste Water Treatment Chemicals) you will see that they are shaded blue in my screenshots. I would like for this to be transparent because I have some photos that I want to be visible.
I’ve specifically targeted your Products & Services child grid section with the following. I’ve use RGB color to match the blue of your site background, and set a opacity/transparency of 0.7, which you can edit. The closer to 1, the more opaque.
.page-id-82 #child-grid .three > div > a { background-color: rgba(0, 36, 105, 0.7); }If you wish to change the text color on the titles for those child pages, add the following.
.page-id-82 #child-grid .three > div > a > h1.entry-title { color: #fff; }On the contact page, I want all fields to be blank yet it shows some of my contact info.
WordPress.com uses cookies to identify users and fill in that information for them if they come to your site, and have commented on your site, or are logged into their own account at WordPress.com. It is done as a convenience for visitors to WordPress.com sites. You see your credentials because WordPress.com recognizes you from the cookie they set on your computer. If you log out of WordPress and clear your browser cache and clear your WordPress.com cookies, you will see those fields blank. When I visit your contact page, I see my name, email address and website filled in on your contact form.

Thank you so much for your assistance. There is obviously a lot of nuances in the world of the web. It can be frustrationg.

There are indeed nuances, and the web can be finicky, but it is always fun and challenging (in a good way). Let me know if you have additional questions or problems.
-
The frustrating part was that my browser showed a differently formatted web page than if an outside guest were to visit our site. To check, I guess I need to visit using another computer or would I log out of word press and then visit on this laptop? Your thoughts appreciated.

TSP,
One formatting question I forgot to ask. Is there a way to do a superscript or subscript within a body of text? How would this be done.

I am trying to change only one of the my child’s font color called Microbe ID (Parent: Products & Services). As you can see the font is black and not very visible with the picture I have for featured image. Delving into the CSS coding shows that the font color is inherited from the parent and is black. How do I just change the color on the Microbe ID child to white?
Kind regards,

You can do either, but if you view it logged out on your current computer, make sure and clear your browser cache and WordPress cookies first (link in previous reply).
For superscript and subscript, there is HTML that can be used, and if it does not turn out exactly as you wish, we can create some CSS rules to adjust the styling, font size, etc.
What you would do would be to put sup or sub tags around the text you wished to superscript (sup) or subscript (sub). You would do this in the Text/HTML tab in the page or post editor.
Superscript example:
Word2Subscript example:
Word[2]I am trying to change only one of the my child’s font color called Microbe ID (Parent: Products & Services).
Here you go.
.page-id-82 #child-grid .post-334 h1 { color: #fff; } -
TSP,
I went to the child page and switched from the visual tab to the html tab. Below the text was the following html information I have cut and pasted.

TSP,
https://i0.wp.com/fifewater.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/superscript-in-title-header.png?ssl=1&wE0
I made changes to the title header as you can see in the screenshot. I did this by going to Chromes inspect and then the HTML tab in lower left corner. I right clicked on the title where it said Edit Html. I made changes (you can see in screenshot to get TM as a superscript. I reloaded the page and the changes were not saved. Not sure how to make this change permanent.
You mentioned going to the Html editor under the edit command and selecting the Html. The problem is this editor only allows changes in the body of the text and not the title.
Also, would like to make the font in TM permanent once I learn how to save my edits.
Thanks
Paul

Hi, when you make changes in the inspector, they are only on the temporary files that the browser downloads, you cannot save changes to the WordPress files themselves.
The changes have to be made within the WordPress page and post editor, and you cannot add html to the titles, only to the text in the body of the posts and pages.
