CSS not Expiring. So Free CSS? Yay?
-
Hello WordPress. Since your Contact Support Page is offline for now, I have to use the forums. I think this problem can’t wait until the 16th.
This is very strange, I think this has something to do with your August 8th Outage possibly? Because something is wrong here.
Yesterday my CSS has expired on August 7th, thinking that the 7th would be my last day of my CSS purchase. Strange thing is though, today is the 8th and I’m still allowed to edit my CSS stylesheet and save changes. This is very surprising. I’m kinda concerned because I do not know whether you guys have made a mistake and given me more CSS time out of my yearly subscription, (which as of now it would be a year and one day subscription when I only paid for a year, haha) Or Is this an error? (bad error for you, cool error for me haha) Or are you giving me free CSS abilities without you knowing because of the August 8th Outage? Ok I’ll stop rambling on. Main concern is, I hope you didn’t automatically charge/re-new my CSS subscription by accident because I never renewed it. I never even came close to that “Re-new” button. So what is going on here? As for me right now, I think this is a happy accident. Not so sure for you… I know it wouldn’t be the right thing to let this continue and keep getting the green light to use that “Save Stylesheet” button when my CSS has expired, you know what I mean?
Can you please fix the problem. Ah, feels good to do the right thing. I have a feeling though that you might let me keep using CSS until you fix the August 8th issue. I don’t know, that would be nice though.

Fixed. :)
Also, note that there currently aren’t any options to automatically renew WordPress.com upgrades, so you don’t need to worry about getting charged for any renewals without going to the blog and clicking the renew button.

Oh Alright. Thanks for your help! So What Your Saying is Technically I had free CSS today for a period of time and that I did not get automatically charged again? Sweet! But Aw! Darn! I could have kept quiet for a long time and had free CSS! Haha! Or maybe not, could have gotten caught eventually haha. I would never do that though, just interesting to realize that. Since I did the right thing, do I get anything out of this lol. Possibly some more image space? That would be nice. If you look ay my account a lot of stuff has expired for me. VideoPress, Space Upgrade, etc. Cmon, I’m just a young teenager lol. I use my allowance money to pay for this stuff. :P By the way you are very pretty. Love your avatar.
-
Lol. I really appreciate you fixed this problem. I was really confused when It happened. Lol. Please don’t think I reported this just to get free stuff lol. I’m just bummed that I have to work again to get more money (to re-new everything) Lol. But hard work is worth it! I love being independent haha!
-
Oh yeah, something to point out, what if this same situation is happening to other people? (And not just with CSS but with other stuff too) WordPress should look into it. :)

I would suspect that anyone else whose upgrades expire during this brainstorming session will also need to renew their upgrades after 16 Aug or lose the service: ie you have acted ethically.
But it must have been an oversight, the expiration not happening automatically/ I’d think they would ‘get caught.’
I think my integrity has more value.
I work for a non-profit and once observed a co-worker find a $20 bill in the snow of our parking lot. I don’t believe he would have said anything except he knew I say him find it He came in and claimed it for himself. “Finders Keepers” he claimed.
Me, I would have kept it aside to see if someone call to say they lost the money and then donated it to our non profit. I think my integrity is worth more than $20!
Just my opinion.

According to Miss Manners, if you know that shortages are deducted from staff pay (like at some restaurants) then you must ethically report it. But otherwise, if you put money in the vending machine and get your money AND three chocolate bars, it’s yours to keep, on the general principle that we’ve all been shorted at least once.
My own experience with WP.com, which includes staff members buying me upgrades without even telling me! would tend to indicate their policy is to err on the side of generosity, ie let people have a few days to renew after the staff come back and not bust their blogs in the meantime OR charge them howevermany $ for the intervening days.
-
@Raincoaster I’m confused. Are you saying that I should have kept my mouth shut and waited to report this after the 16th? Lol good idea, but I thought that wouldn’t be the right thing, So I reported it.
@1tess What are you trying to say? I’m confused. Are you saying I did the right thing or what?
Anyhow, Raincoaster, if WordPress pays for your re-newels sometmes, why can’t WordPress give me something out of this lol. I did the right thing. Maybe WordPress can pay for my VideoPress re-newel or renew my Space Upgrade? Haha. ;)
-
Yes, I am saying you did the right thing!
raincoaster, yeah, the vending machine: what or who do you report the problem over generosity to?? My integrity is worth more then $20, but so is my time…
Your experience with people paying for your upgrades is not usual practice.
Wp paying or letting slide a few days of one upgrade or another, though, that is not unusual.
-
Heehee, thanks 1tess. Very kind. Well, I’ll say, I think Raincoaster is lucky to have people pay for his upgrades. Lucky Penguin lol. 1tess, do you think it would be nice if WP payed for one of my upgrades? I think that would be awesome! I hope they do! I did the right thing. Heehee! I’m getting excited now.
-
No, what I’m saying is, you’d be morally okay if you did wait. But of course, it wouldn’t have been wise to wait; you could have had a bad mess!
I know my experience is unusual, but they do generally let people get their money back for, say, the CSS upgrade, even if they bought it going “oh, this’ll be easy” and later find out they can’t use it at all. They also generally give people some leeway with renewals.
In order to get a free upgrade, it seems that you have to: have met Matt in person, be loud and annoying, have 4000+ blog posts at WordPress.com, and have answered 639 PAGES of questions in the support forums.
-
Aha, now I see what your saying. Good point Raincoaster! And very true. I also really like your blog! Lol according to those rules you listed above, I think it will be a while until I get that free upgrade. Haha, I can do the last three things, but I’m not so sure if I will be able to meet Matt lol. Maybe someday… he rocks! Lol I’m not going to fret on getting that free upgrade though. I’m going to let time take its course. Thanks for your help everyone! And remember my slogan, “Remember to Eat That Chilli!”
-
Speaking of slogans, Ah yes, and also remember, “The Children Are Our Future.” LOL, laughing hysterically right now. Sorry, just had to say that. Hahahaha. But it is so very true. :D
