I say this to you with deep respect. You are a newbie blogger. You have yet to master using wordpress.com software. You are not adept at HTML and you have no CSS editing experience. The theme you are using is already full sized. Also although many people have huge monitors on their home computers many others are viewing blogs by using mobiles, notebooks, laptops, and other devices with small screens. I respectfully submit that I believe that CSS editing is beyond your skill level at this point in time.Here are links to HTML and CSS tutorials so you can learn what you need to know before you tackle CSS editing.

@harrythehandyman, yes you can make it wider, but the theme you are using is very difficult to work with and requires that that you change a ton of things just to make the main column wider. Also keep in mind that a good number of people are still using monitors with widths of 1024px. If you make the overall width your blog wider than that, people will have to scroll horizontally, and that is the #3 thing people hate most on the web.
As TT suggests, don’t buy the upgrade unless you have at least some understanding of how CSS works and how it relates to the HTML. It isn’t rocket science, but it does require some understanding of at least the basics before you start with CSS.

i take your advice to mind and was not going to mess around with it after reading lots of posts over the weeks about css, just thought i would find out
i view on a 26″ monitor maybe thats why i think its to narrow , i may change my theme to get a wider page , harry
