CSS stylesheet editor scrolls erratically
-
When I’m scrolling through my CSS stylesheet editor, either up or down, it doesn’t scroll smoothly. It will suddenly jump back to the beginning or somewhere else and I lose my place if I’m not carefully noting the line numbers as I go. I have to keep thinking “now I’m up to line 250” if I want to find my place again. It makes it very difficult to find a specific item in the code when you have to keep watching the line numbers to make sure you haven’t skipped something or started over. This has been a problem for months, if not years, and I finally thought to ask about it. Is there any way to keep the scrolling from jumping, skipping, or starting over?

Hi there, are you talking about at Customize > CSS?
Which browser (and computer OS) are you experiencing this with? Have you tried a different browser to see if it is related to that particular browser?
I just browsed through your custom CSS in Safari, Chrome and Firefox on my Mac and did not experience any issues.

Yes. I’ll be working my way down, looking for something, get to a certain point and suddenly I’m thrown back 20 or 30 lines. The only way to get past it is to quickly scroll past the sticking point and then scroll back up to it. I’m on a MacBook Pro using Chrome, latest versions of both. No, haven’t tried other browsers. I’ll give it a shot. (Hope you didn’t actually read any of my awful trial-and-error coding!)

Can you log out on Chrome and log in with Safari to see if it exhibits the same behavior? I couldn’t reproduce the Chrome issue on my MacBook Pro with Chrome.
Also, while logged out in Chrome, clear it’s browser cache and cookies and then restart it and try again.
Let us know how things go.

Logged out of Chrome after clearing cache and cookies (figured I couldn’t do that after I logged out). Logged into Safari, and the CSS there scrolls just fine. No stuttering or snapping back or anything. Logged into Chrome again and it still snaps back like before. It’s not a deal-breaking problem, just a real annoyance at times.

Went back to Chrome and the problem is still there. It’s not a deal-breaking problem; just really annoying when I’m trying to do something with the CSS.

Oops. Sorry about the duplication. That’s another problem I sometimes experience. Comments sometimes don’t show up right away, so assuming something went wrong, I enter another comment.

Hi, and thanks for the clarification and testing. I’ve been playing with Customize > CSS on your site in Chrome, and I am able to reproduce the wacky scrolling behavior, so I’m filing a bug report on it and hopefully the developers can look into this and get it fixed soon-ish.

Aha, so I’m not crazy after all. I realize it’s not at the top of anyone’s list for fixing. I’m just glad it’s on the list now. Thanks for that, and for your time.
