CSS to edit front page content ONLY

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello everyone, I need help! Since I just spent the last two days trying to figure out how to use dreamweaver as an ftp for my website I come to discover that the website I already own and operate through wordpress.com doesn’t support ftp of any kind and that the 30 bucks a month I am now spending for dreamweaver was a complete waste of my time and money. any way long story short… Theme being used is Twenty Fourteen. I have tweeked it by trial and error thus far to make it appear as it does now. here is my site as it stands http://www.nerdsdib.com. What I am trying to do is make every post on the front page or featured page display the featured image only until you click on said featured image and it will take you to another page with the content intact in all its glory. I have discovered if I enter in the provided css editor the following

    .entry-content { display:none
    }

    it will hide the content as desired on the front page or featured page. The problem with this is it hides it no matter what. even if you click on the post preview image you are met with zilch. Is there an “if/else” statement I can introduce to make this work right? I need css code help on this one. GIMMIE THA CODES MAN!!!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    WAIT.

    Before you put another minute of work into this, I’m going to tell you that the site you are building is so far in violation of the Terms of Service that there is no point in your proceeding to work on it.

    Buy hosting from somewhere that hosts WordPress sites, install software from WordPress.ORG, and use FTP and Dreamweaver to your heart’s content.

    Blogger-initiated advertising is banned here, as is selling things you, yourself, do not manufacture.

    You are going to be happier if you lay out the money for an independent host and WP.org.

    You can also change your domain to point to your new site easily. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/

    that is incredibly unfortunate as I have been working on this site since april lol. Thank you so much for you help though!!! do you recommend using laughing squid? or dreamhost or bluehost as my alternatives?

    I recommend anything but GoDaddy. And save the work you’ve done. You will be able to use it at the other site.

    You can actually limit CSS to specific pages using body classes because all WordPress.com are setup to apply them. For example, you could use “.home” at the front of a CSS selector to limit it to only the home page. I can help you look up the specific classes you need for other types of pages too, if you need help with that.

    WordPress.com does also have an advertising program if you have built up enough traffic and you are interested. You can find out more about it at http://wordads.co/

    Info. about the general advertising policies can be found at http://support.wordpress.com/advertising/

    I’m sorry to hear you had some trouble sorting out the different types of WordPress setups that are available. Our support team has written up a page about the differences that might also help you: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
