CSS to set border same as background color

  Hi,

  I could use some help. I really like the dark header logo and sides, but can’t stand the light strips on either side of the header image and above it.

  I tried setting the site background dark using
  .site {
  background: #e7e9ea;
  }

  however, it makes the margins dark all the way down the page. I just want the area around the header image dark. Any advice?
