Cubic: Static Picture Welcome Page

    Hiya,

I’m trying to create a static image welcome page (Cubic theme) but I’ve had no luck. I just want a full screen image with a link leading onto the blog. I’ve tried a few tutorials but I’m not accomplishing much beyond developing a headache :(

Is this possible with this theme?

    Lea

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,
Yes, it’s possible with the Cubic theme, or any other theme in the WordPress.com Theme Showcase. Follow the instructions on the Set a Static “Home” Page (Front Page) support page. Let us know if you run into any difficulties applying those instructions.

@queenqianne I’m having the same issue plus I do not have an upload theme option.

@musicdoc1 I did that and still no change….

    @ daze88,
The http://dazeportfolio.com/ presently has a static front page, titled “Home.”

  • queenqiannie – let us know if you’re able to follow the guide here for setting a static front page, which musicdoc1 linked to above:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

Your front page is still set to display the latest posts.

    daze88 –

plus I do not have an upload theme option.

It’s not possible to upload third-party themes here on WordPress.com. That’s only an option if you’re running the WordPress software on your own hosting. You can learn more here about the differences between WordPress.com and self-hosted site run on your own hosting:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

If you still need help, please provide a link to your site running Cubic and let me know where you’re getting stuck.

    @ kathrynwp,
Pardon me. I’m not trying to compete with your response. Just wish to amend what I said to queenqiannie and daze88 in previous comments.

    @ queenqiannie,

I just want a full screen image with a link leading onto the blog.

I hadn’t read your OP carefully. A featured image assigned to a static front page may fill the entire screen, except for the title area, as can be seen on the page Image Alignment and Styles of the Cubic demo.

To display a full screen image embedded in a static page without CSS customization requires the availability of a full width page template. Cubic doesn’t have page template options, and the default page width is evidently only 624 pixels. It might be possible on this theme with CSS customization.

    @ daze88,

Even though the Edin theme has a full-width page template option the column width of such a page is only 930 pixels. An image embedded in a static page assigned to the full-width template on this theme will not fill a large screen. A featured image on a page will fill the width of the screen, but not the height, owing to the default cropping of featured images on the theme, plus the rather tall title area. The height of a featured image on a page with the front page template may be increased by including content which will, however, overlay the featured image. You might be able to remove or reduce the obstacles outlined above with CSS customization.

Thanks again, I did give them ago but wasn’t quite happy with the results. I switched back to the Gazette theme in the end ^^
