Cubic theme, black boxes above homepage images

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I love this theme CUBIC but having a little problem with the way the home page is displaying on my PC screen. On some of the blog link images there is a black bar either at the top or the bottom. Not all, just some. I’ve tried varying portrait or landscape images and tried using featured images but cant seem to see what causes the difference. Ideally I’d like to lose the black lines or at least have it all the same. What am I doing wrong?

    Page is https://theitalianweddingphotographer.wordpress.com/

    Many thanks

    Jason

    Hi Jason,

I use the Cubic theme as well and I’ve solved the issue using the featured images with resolution of 2000 x 1500 px. If you don’t use featured image in your post it will show on the index the first picture of the post’s content.

I hope this information help you!

  • Hi Jason, as designinacloud mentioned, the recommended featured-image size in Cubic is at least 2000 pixels wide by 1500 pixels high. If you upload images that meet the minimum recommended size – or images that are at the very least more traditional (4:3) in width to height ratio – you should be able to get rid of the bars. Let me know how it goes!

    Hi,
First – my congratulations for “Cubic”
Can you explain to me – please, how to get black silhouette/frame over the title in the blog? And second – how to get the photo in the upper part – ie, in the background of the title? And what format must have pictures to fill the upper part of the page? I tried several options – but without sexes.
    Thanx!!

  • HI Ulysses,

Can you explain to me – please, how to get black silhouette/frame over the title in the blog?

I’m not sure what effect you’re looking for. Is there an example somewhere you can link to that I can look at?

And second – how to get the photo in the upper part – ie, in the background of the title?

Have you tried uploading a logo in the Customizer, under Site Title, Tagline, and Logo? Click the “Add Logo” button to add one.

And what format must have pictures to fill the upper part of the page?

Try adding images in your posts that are at least 600px square to fill the grid. If you add them as featured images instead of inserting them into the post, the recommended size is 2000 wide by 1500 high so they also look good on single posts at the top of the page.

If you have new questions in the future, please start a new thread rather than adding to an existing one – thanks!

    Hi Kathrynwp,
I must admit that my English is not perfect… What do you mean exactly when you say: “…as featured images instead of inserting them…” I would like the picture in at the top of the page and the title of (post) on the picture.
    Here’s one post, for example:
    https://nonestnomen.wordpress.com/2015/03/28/vincents-letter-to-theo-van-gogh-self-portrait-with-pipe-detail/
In this post, I need of course a bigger picture: however, I want the picture at the top of the page.

I think this is my problem: “Keep the title with content on single posts and pages”

Sorry to bother you – and thank you for your support!

    P.S “Logo” is not a problem…

  • What do you mean exactly when you say: “…as featured images instead of inserting them…”

Sure! Both editors have a way of uploading what’s called a Featured Image. In Cubic, that featured image will be displayed not only on the blog page, but as a large image at the top of single blog posts, like this example on the demo site.

    https://cubicdemo.wordpress.com/2014/10/12/hello-world/

Here’s where to add a featured image in both editors:

WP Admin: https://cloudup.com/colrXpGmH-N – this is from one of your posts where you did upload a featured image already

    New editor: https://cloudup.com/cR-tdkjErNj

Let me know how it goes!

    Hello!

I’m having the same trouble with a black bar in the main page, but the system automatically cuts the image featured in the post. I changed the dimension for the dimension said here, but it didn’t work. The photos are still cut.

    What can I do?

    The blog is? http://www.nos2eomundo.wordpress.com

  • nos2eomundo – some of your images – for example, this one – have a very wide aspect ratio. Try uploading images that are taller in proportion to their width and the black bars will go away.

If you need further help in the future, it’s better to start a new thread rather than adding to an existing one, as your question will be more likely to be noticed. Thanks. :)
