Cubic Theme Featured Images
-
Hello there, Happy New Years everyone!
So I am having troubles with the Cubic Theme’s Featured Image Sizes. I read that the Featured Images are automatically cropped by WordPress’ Software, but I also read we can resize images with Photoshop and visit the Theme’s Information Page and click Featured Images to get each theme’s exact Featured Image Dimension’s and then Insert an image with those dimension’s to by-pass the auto-crop by WordPress.
So I tried this, and unfortunately it isn’t working, which is a big shame because Cubic Theme is perfect for natural sized featured images.
The way it appears right now shows way too many of the same image to be a truly spectacular photo-blog. I mean it’s perfect for photo’s… But you go from the Front Page Photo Grid, and click a photo, and then see a massive (but cropped) Featured Image version of that photo, and then have to scroll below that to the post area and actually post the photo again full size just to see the full size image.
Which to me makes it somewhat redundant for what I am trying to use Cubic for. I understand there are many other ways Cubic can perform, such as having the Front Page Grid Images leading into a gallery showcasing similar images, with a cropped featured image.
But I just want people to be able to click on an image from the Front Page Grid, right into that same image being Full Size and Featured, so that directly underneath in the post area, is just a brief descriptive post with subtle info about the image itself, and then have the arrows beneath direct to Next/ Previous Image.
I really do not want to have to post the full size image itself directly into the post… like I did here:

The Featured Image in this post was resized to this theme’s exact Featured Image Dimension’s with Photoshop before uploading to WordPress, but it’s as though it never was resized in the first place. It always appears cropped the same way. Cutting off his head.
The full size image below that in the post is like 4750x3250px or something, and the Featured Image I resized in Photoshop is uploaded at 2000x1335px and the Featured Image Dimension’s are 2000x1500px (so I should be under for height.)
Although the resized image appears cropped the exact same way it would if I had the 4750x3250px Full Size Image uploaded as the Featured Image as well.
Does anyone know of a work around for this?
I want to be able to display the full size image uncropped in the Featured Image area, and not insert a photo at all into the post area and leave it open only for a few descriptive words.
Would I have to upgrade and change it using CSS?
Any help is much appreciated.

This Featured Image was resized and uploaded even smaller, at 500px and 700px off the theme’s original dimensions. I uploaded it at 1500x930ish px which should be plenty of extra space to fit the image more properly… But it still show’s the image cropped in the exact same way it would even if the image was uploaded at max px.
Regardless of what image size I use, it always appears the same way.

Hi there – I see Twenty Fourteen running on the site above now, did you decide to switch themes? If there’s another site on which you need help with Cubic, just let me know and I’d be glad to have a look.

Hi there, I think I’m having the same problem as Huntsnow. The pictures on my homepage look okay but when you click on a picture to read the post, the picture is really big and seems zoomed in. The website I need help with is http://www.parentingonhighheels.com
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me. I’m rather new at this blogging thing. Cheers!
