I’m setting up a photo blog and am using the Cubic theme as inspiration for my initial setup. I was hoping to

Is there any way to use the code/setup of the live demo site as the foundation for building my own site? As in I could start with the demo site as my own but edit it with my own content?

Also I’m not really sure what happened with the formatting on the “About” page..

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

The Cubic demo site just has a default setup of displaying latest blog posts on the front page. To set up your site like that, go to Appearance ->Customize ->Homepage Settings, and change the option at the top to Latest Posts, and that’s it. As long as each post you publish has a featured image of sufficient size, it will show up in the grid on the front page, same as the demo site.

Also I’m not really sure what happened with the formatting on the “About” page..

The problem is the image size.

The image is set to display at 100%, and the actual image is 1560x1560px big. On the Zoologist theme you originally had on the site, that created that default About page, that’s not an issue: because the image is added in a column block, the width of the column restricts the width of the image so even though the image is bigger, it only shows at the space available.

But Cubic is a pretty old theme and predates the block editor by several years. So it doesn’t support styling for all the blocks available in the editor, and in this case specifically, it appears it’s not using the styling of the column block to override the default size of the image.

If you want to use that layout for your About page, just make sure to set your image size to fit inside the column, and the page should display normally. But you can also delete that About page and create your own one from scratch if you prefer.
