Cubic Theme loads a blank homepage

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

My blog uses the Cubic theme and has been loading a blank homepage since a month now.

I view it on Safari, both on my phone as well as the desktop.

It loads a blank page except for the header and menu tab. The links are working, but you cannot see any featured images that lead to the posts. So, you have to blindly click and see where it leads. On clicking back to the homepage, it stays blank.

The posts once clicked load fine, along with images. The issue is only with the homepage.

    Here’s a link to a screengrab: https://snag.gy/SLMmck.jpg
This is my blog url: http://www.lilbookplace.wordpress.com

I have cleared my cache, and have updated my browser. No change in the situation.

I would appreciate any help with this one. Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @lilbookplace ,

That is definitely odd. I just tried viewing your site and I could see the images with no problems. (Windows / Chrome)

Do you know of any others who are facing the same issue as you when they view your site?

I’m going to tag this for staff to look into. I hope it is resolved soon.
How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question?

    Hey there,

Thank you for taking the time.

So, I’ve checked, and the site seems to working fine for those viewing it on Chrome / Firefox, but not on Safari.

I found a similar query on the WordPress.org support forum, and there was a back-end resolution to it.
    This was the thread: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/blank-from-page/

Thank you for adding the tag and getting this to the staff’s notice :)

    Hi lilbookplace,

Thanks for providing all of these details and a screen grab. I checked lilbookplace.wordpress.com in Safari and I’m seeing the same as you — a site title and menu but no content on the homepage. I can load “Lil Book Keeper” and the archive pages though.

I cleared your site cache from our side and the homepage is now loading for me. Can you confirm whether it looks okay from your side too?

    Hi Gemma,

It is still a blank page at my end.

I have, once again, cleared cache and restarted my browser to check.
Tried viewing it via a private tab as well. No change.

You are right, all pages and links work fine, but the homepage images do not load.

I should add, the site works fine when I am logged in and check a preview of the site.

  • Hi –

What happens if you try using a brand new, fresh, installation of the browser. Completely remove it from your computer and reinstall it as new. Check the site then. It sounds like there’s something on your side running interference. Let me know if that helps at all.

    Hey there,

Thank you for the suggestion. I have upgraded it to the latest version, but I still face this issue.

My system doesn’t allow me to delete and reinstall Safari, only to upgrade it.

However, I have used my friends’ systems and browsers to view my blog, and this issue persists on the Safari browser. Works fine on Chrome, Firefox.

And Safari seems to run other themes just fine (I tried changing the theme to test). Just Cubic faces the issue.

I do love the theme, I hope I don’t have to change it!

  • Just noting I can see the site in Safari here as well.

Is your Safari blocking scripts? And does http://cubicdemo.wordpress.com work for you?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey Supernovia,

It’s a relief to know it is working for you on Safari.

How can I find out if my Safari is blocking scripts?

The demo link you provided works fine.
Here are screen grabs of how the demo link and my site load on safari:

    My blog page: https://snag.gy/GuntSv.jpg

I’d like to add that Java Script is enabled on my Safari.

  • Yeah — if the demo works fine for you, your site should too, then. Super odd.

Had you changed any reading or writing settings perhaps? Infinite scroll behavior, posts per page, or summary vs full content, for example? Maybe you’re loading up too many posts for your browser to handle, for example.

If you had changed some settings, would you mind temporarily changing them back to see if that changes anything? You can tinker with the settings here:

    Thank you, Supernovia.

I haven’t changed any settings for a year or so. This issue only began early this year.

I still went ahead and experimented with the options you suggested, and it loads fine with 3 posts to display at a time, and the infinite scroll option turned off.

Do you think this is just an issue with my browser, but will work for others?
I would wish to go back to infinite scroll and 9 posts at a time.

  • It does sound like your browser may be running into some sort of resource issue then, or it could be an issue with one of the there other posts — if you click to load more do you see the issue?

  • Unknown's avatar

If the home page loads as a blank one to start with, then the ‘load more’ option also ends up loading a continuing blank page as I scroll through.

But if the page loads with images (feature images of posts on the home page), the scroll works fine too.

  • Okay. This will sound odd, but I’d recommend testing it with 4 pages, then, and 5… just to see if you can identify if one of them is problematic.

Mine has the same issue on iPad and iPhone, both Chrome and Safari. The site is dawsondinners.wordpress.com.

    Hey Supernovia,

I’ll try that too, thank you.

I am beginning to wonder if this is a browser error or theme error.

May I please request you to try loading my site when you are logged out of your WordPress account, and see if it still works for you?

I’ve tried to load dawsonfamilyblog’s site, and it’s behaving the same as mine.

    Here’s a screen grab:
Homepage, when I was logged out: https://snag.gy/05rw4L.jpg
Homepage, when I logged in: https://snag.gy/PQhlZd.jpg

So, if a WordPress account holder who is logged in visits, a Cubic-themed site loads fine. But for visitors, it doesn’t work.

At least we know now this cannot be a cache issue, as this is the first time I have loaded this site.

I run other blogs on WordPress too, and they are running fine on all browsers.
My stats have dropped in the last month, I suppose because it shows a plank page.

I do love Cubic, but I do not mind moving to another theme that works.

    @dawsonfamilyblog
    – Thank you for sharing this here!

  • Hi @lilbookplace and @dawsonfamilyblog,

I made an adjustment on our end. Can you please clear your browser’s cache and try loading your sites again?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi @fstat

The site loads absolutely fine now on Safari, both on desktop and mobile.
I’ve gone back to my previous settings of infinite scroll, as well.

I am able to load dawsonfamilyblog’s site too.

Thank you so much for your help. I’m glad it’s finally fixed, phew :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes! It works now. Thank you for your help!
