I seem to recall you can manage your site’s Domain in the Admin panel. This should allow you to replace your .wordpress URL with the new custom one.
https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/
It will still be redirecting traffic to the .wordpress URL, but users wouldn’t normally see that occurring when they click the link.

It also appears that you can toggle your primary domain under the upgrades -> domain section of the home toolbar.
It also states that transfers can take up to 72 hours to register so if you have just completed a transfer it could take some time.

Hi there!
As long as your site has a WordPress.com plan and a custom domain, you can set that domain as the primary address of your site. :)
Your primary site address is the domain that people will see in their browser’s address bar when visiting your site. It is the address you use to promote your website. Requirements To use a domain as your site’s primary address, you will need: A domain registered or connected to WordPress.com. Any paid WordPress.com plan. With a paid WordPress.com plan, you can set a custom doI just visited your site, and I see you’ve already set thepostgallery.com as the primary address. So, you’re all set there!
