Curious. Varia Theme Update; Yoast Floating
-
Hi,
Recently the parent theme Varia was updated this month (I believe) and I use the child theme Morden for my site. I didn’t really have any technical problems with it before. I still honestly believe it isn’t that big of an issue but I am curious about the sudden weird thing happening when I try to make a post.
So, here’s the thing. I updated the parent theme and some time last week (and also today) Yoast Seo had its own update.
Before the Yoast update, the theme and the plugin worked great together. I would write out my post and then look over to the plugin at the bottom of the page/post/screen. It sat at the end basically.
When the first update I mention was announced, I applied it because I didn’t think it would affect much of anything. That’s when I suddenly started seeing the Yoast bar/navigation floating in the middle of my post while I edit. It’s slightly annoying but it’s not too much of a bother. I would love to get it fixed but I’m not sure what the problem is.
I emailed Jetpack to see if they might have an answer. No response as of yet. I probably shouldn’t have but I updated Yoast the second time around. Or rather than update, I uninstalled the plugin to see if reinstalling it would fix it but no luck there.
I’ve done a lot of the troubleshooting already- deactivating other plugins and such and changing my theme but the problem persists. It’s only when Yoast is deactivated does the issue disappear (lol). Like I said before though, it’s more of an annoyance as it sits at a particular spot on the editor (it’s always on that spot). As long as it doesn’t follow me as I write, that’s okay but it is a curious thing.
*will tag for modlook in a reply*
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Also, I said “will tag” but I actually meant, someone please tag for modlook for this reason:
kokkieh: The new themes are not currently available on WordPress.org, and don’t have their own forums over there, so please tag for staff if someone posts here about one of them. We’ll post an update on the volunteer blog once we’ve finalised where support for these are going to live.

Hi,
You may add the tag “modlook” yourself, in the sidebar at right, the same way the other tags were added. If you do so then staff will respond here.

That’s really odd. :(
Is Yoast working properly for you under any other theme, like Twenty Nineteen?
-
It wasn’t working for Twenty Nineteen either which I checked after writing the initial post. It was just floating randomly at that one spot. And when I would open it, it would just go over the text that I had. It didn’t affect the post but it was just weirdly there.
Even more strange is that it’s working properly again. lol
I started writing a new post today and I noticed that the bar was no longer in the way. It’s back at the end of the page/post. Even when I open it up, it stays down there. I didn’t do anything to fix it. So, I guess the issue is solved? haha
-
It might have been some kind of glitch that fixed itself – I’m glad that it did :)
Since changing the themes didn’t help when you tried it, I’d say it would be best to reach out directly to Yoast support in case this issue reappears.
