Current Issue: Mysterious Image Vanishings

So far, nothing’s changed, nothing else has disappeared (or reappeared). Yesterday I had a really hard time uploading photos, and I would get the red “x” as soon as I uploaded it – not sure if that qualifies as a “separate issue,” but after multiple attempts I got them all loaded, and everything’s still there.

    Hi There
WHile in http://gottabkd.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php?tab=browse-all&ID&action&paged to view my pictures, I click on page two or three or four to seven (any of them in fact) and it takes me to this instead: http://gottabkd.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php?paged2

I know this is not supposed to happen… but it keeps redirecting me? :)
    Any news on this issue?

I did send in feed back to support, just now.

    Thanks
    gottabkd

Sorry I forgot to say that.

Yesterday I uploaded several images that didn’t show at all in the Uploads box, but I’m stubborn and grabbed the URL from the Edit Upload page and put that in the blog, and the pictures display just fine. Weird.

I have somewhat similar problems and I hope they qualify to go into this thread.

When I click on some images, previously installed and functioning, on some pages, I keep getting directed to the WordPress.com page that says ‘Get your own WordPress.com account in seconds’.

The second problem occurred when I click on uploaded images which only appeared as ‘a frame with red x’, I get directed to http://kitswaterdemons.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php. I have also responded to another thread with this second problem.

I will report to tech support when I have better understanding of my problems.

    Thanks all.

Hi, I’m also having problems over the last 24 hours or so. These have varied from
    1. the thumnail pop-up showing a ‘log-in’ page,
    2. when I upload it only gives the filename as a link and no image,
    3. a ‘snap’ placeholder saying ‘loading preview’
    4. a ‘snap’ placeholder saying something like ‘ come back shortly’

As I’m a new user I’m relieved to see this seems to be a general problem and not only me not getting the hang of things (or if it is, please do give me tips!). Don’t feel you have to answer my individual problem if there’s a general solution on its way.. but if it helps to look at specifics my blog page is: http://clarerishbeth.wordpress.com/ and some of the images that are problematic are those titled: hill again and sketch.

    Thanks, Clare

chekmtay and clarerishbeth, please review Mark’s post up above and send in a feedback with specifics. Just for reference, specifics means linking to an actual post, not just saying “look at my blog for the holes.” Please remember that we can’t always see what you’re looking at.

Unless you can tell me what book I’m holding up in front of the monitor right now. :)

    Thanks,
    -drmike

    Hurray! Misery finds company!

    Hi Clare,

I have exactly your first problem, ie. ‘1. the thumnail pop-up showing a ‘log-in’ page’. It is interesting to note also that the urls for the thumbnails remain the same but they are hijacked by the ‘log-in’ page. I am tempted to delete the hijacked thumbnails and reinstall them to see if the same problem recur, when my head stops smoking.

For your second problem, in case you are not aware, I read somewhere on the forum (tagged image and upload, I believe) that the problem could also have been caused by the image dimensions and file size being too large. I had dealt with large image files by using a free image editing software mentioned on the forum. The one I used is ‘IrfanView’. ‘Irfanview’ is quite easy to use. It solved that problem for me before but, under the current WordPress problems with image uploading, your situation might be different. It’s worth trying it out though!

I do not have your 3th and 4th problems, yet! Knock wood!

Sorry, didn’t understand what was being asked.

    Post:
    http://clarerishbeth.wordpress.com/2007/04/24/walking-the-view/

Images with problems on this post:
    http://clarerishbeth.files.wordpress.com/2007/04/cr-157s.jpg (image name: hill again)
    http://clarerishbeth.files.wordpress.com/2007/04/cr-159-w.jpg (image name: sketch)
these only give the filename as a link and no image

    http://clarerishbeth.files.wordpress.com/2007/04/cr-158-w.jpg (image name kindergarten masterpiece)
A ‘snap’ placeholder saying ‘ loading preview’ followed by a firefox message saying ‘server not found’.

though, as I mentioned above, the problem has varied. These are the other things that have happened over the last 24 hours or so.

    the thumnail pop-up showing a ‘log-in’ page,
a ‘snap’ placeholder saying ‘loading preview’
a ‘snap’ placeholder saying something like ‘ come back shortly’

I’m in firefox but I’ve just checked in explorer and the last one is fine but the first two link to a page ‘Get your own WordPress.com account in seconds’.

    Hope that’s now OK specifics-wise!

    Thanks for your help,

    Clare

sorry :( have done properly now I think.

Thanks chekmtay and good luck! I had reduced my pixel width, though it’s possible one of my file sizes was a little over that advised. It’s taking a while to get a hang of it all.

    Thanks, drmike,

I am still trying to retrace and document my problems. Once this is done I will send it off to Mark.

    Cheers

Hello all. I thought that maybe a little cache clean would solve the issue. no such luck. All I can access is the last 10 images I uploaded to my image library. I can’t go past page one, as has been reported by others earlier. Hopefully this bug will work its way out. Thanking you in advance.

    Goodnight from Montreal

I have a very similar issue, though with posting pictures uploaded to other sites, such as box.net and savefile. com.

In the post http://sungame.wordpress.com/2007/04/24/island-in-the-sun/ i have tried to post the same picture twice, from to different locations (first from box.net, then savefile.com) , with the same depressing result: All I get is the “broken picture” icon. The picture is 500px on the longest side, and takes up 0.15MB, so the size shouldn’t be a problem.

*sigh* jeremiahandrews and sungamew, it’s a good idea to always read the thread that you post it, especially since Mark states what information is needed. Please send in a feedback with specific details. “Last 10 images” is not a specific detail. The filenames are.

    Regards,
    -drmike

    *sigh*

I did read the thread, thank you very much. On my upload box, when you “Browse all” I have 16 pages of images. There are 10 images that appear in the box. (pg.1) When I click to go to page 2, I get my dashboard in the upload box area. It will not let me scroll through the rest of my images which have been there for months. I have them saved on my HD.

I can’t give you a URL or location of the images, because they just are not there to link to/from. Although if I upload fresh images to my upload area, they will upload to Post, which I did last night. I tried an [ctrl f-5] to clear cache and that didn’t work.

Summary: My image library – like many others has disappeared. What I can access is what was on the latest images uploaded to my library. but no further into my library.

I am having a variation of the “disappearing images problem”. In my case it includes PDF’s as well as JPG’s.

The links on the blog still work, but “Manage Uploads” only shows ten items. Obviously I can’t edit the titles and descriptions of the uploaded files that have become invisible.

    It should show 29 PDF’s and 3 JPG’s.

However if I edit a page under “Write”, the invisible images are available to be inserted.

jeremiahandrews, but you’re posting here in the forums when Mark has asked folks to send in a feedback so he or another staff member can sit there and look at the issue with the data in hand.

Not trying to be rude but it’s frustrating for us as volenteers when we try to help people here but we can’t because they’re not helping themselves. :)

    From Mark’s post:

Please send me precise details – post names, image names, what the images are of.
Unless I have exact information I can do nothing but ask you again.

drmike, it gets a little confusing because when you click on feedback, it says to check the FAQ and forums, too.

The links which leads to the users page is fixed.

Anything else with images, do please just send a support with:
    – post name where the image was
    – image name
    – what the image was of
I can then check what is where and fix what I can.
Details are a Good Thing :)
