Cursor not working when I’m creating / editing a Post…

Hi. When I’m editing / creating a post my cursor won’t sweep anything inside the HTML box. I can sweep anywhere else, just not in the box I’m trying to edit using HTML. I can still right-click the mouse and get a menu, but the left-click / sweep feature is missing specifically when I’m editing a box using the ‘Edit As HTML’ feature. Again, everywhere else it works. This new behaviour is very frustrating, and happening in both my blogs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi there, I understand how frustrating this must be, and I’d be happy to help figure this out.

I’ve tried to reproduce the issue by editing a post, adding a block, and using the “Edit as HTML” feature. As you can see in this screen recording, the left mouse button and sweep functionality seem to be working correctly on my end.

Since it’s affecting both of your blogs, let’s try a few troubleshooting steps to narrow it down:

    1. Try in an incognito or private browser window to rule out browser extensions interfering.
    2. Test in a different browser (e.g., if you’re using Chrome, try Firefox or Edge) and see if the issue persists.

If the issue still persists, could you let me know:

    • Which browser and device you’re using?
    • If this happens in all posts or just specific ones?
    • When you first noticed this behavior?

Let me know what you find, and we’ll go from there! 😊

Hi, and thanks very, very much for getting back to me.

I’m using the latest version of Firefox on a PC, it happens on all posts, and I first noticed it a few days ago… but I haven’t posted or edited anything for over a month.

I tried using a Private Window (Firefox), and the problem persists. I tried using Chrome, and everything works just fine (I’m able to sweep everything everywhere).

  • Thanks for testing that! Since the issue only happens in Firefox, let’s narrow it down further:

    • Do you have any browser extensions installed? Some (like ad blockers or script managers) can interfere with site functionality.
    • Are you using any custom settings in Firefox, such as enhanced tracking protection? (Turning it off can help!) (More about it here)

Based on what you find, let’s try these two steps:

    1. Try Firefox’s Troubleshoot Mode: This temporarily disables extensions and resets some settings without affecting your data. You can enable it by clicking Menu (☰) → Help → Troubleshoot Mode. (More on it here)
    2. Clear Firefox’s cache: You can get help from here.

Let me know what happens after these steps, and we’ll go from there!

Hi Sreehari… I’ve tried disabling extensions, and clearing the cache, and I still cannot sweep anything inside an HTML block. I’m not using any ad blockers, and the only custom settings I have set up were in place back when I could sweep / edit text blocks when they’re set to HTML.

  • Hi there,

Thanks for giving those steps a try! Since the issue is only happening in Firefox and everything works fine in Chrome, let’s take a few more steps to see if we can get this sorted out.

    1. Try a New Firefox Profile – Sometimes, browser profiles can become corrupted over time. You can create a new one by going to about:profiles, clicking Create a New Profile, and then launching Firefox with the new profile to see if the issue still happens.
    2. Disable Hardware Acceleration – In Firefox, go to Settings → General → Performance, uncheck Use recommended performance settings, then uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available. Restart Firefox and test again.
    3. Reset Firefox to Default Settings – If nothing else works, resetting Firefox could help.

If the issue still persists after these steps, it could be a bug in Firefox. You might want to test it in Firefox Nightly (the beta version) to see if the problem exists there too. If it does, it would be worth reporting it to Mozilla so they can investigate further.
