Custom Background Image Size and Format

    Hi there – my current theme is Duster. I’d like to have my graphic designer friend create a custom background image for my site, but in the past when I’ve tried to use a image of anything other than a plain colour or texture I’ve had problems with the size of the image (resulting in stretching, compressing, tiling, etc.). What is the optimal size for a custom background image to display properly in Duster?

    @wildcoastpilates, there is no “optimum” size. The reason there isn’t is that there is not only one monitor resolution people are using. My friend has a laptop with 1024px x 768px resolution. My laptop is 1440 x 900 and my external monitor is 2560 x 1600.

    My recommendation is to create something about 1440px wide by 1000px tall, set it as no repeat, centered and fixed, and have it designed so that it fades out at the sides and bottom to a color that you can then set as a background color.
