Custom Category Pages, how is this possible?

  I did some searching around and came to the conclusion that customizable category pages was not possible on wordpress.com, and then I stumbled upon a wordpress.com site that did exactly that.

  http://www.profootballtalk.com

  More specifically (the category page I am referencing): http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/category/teams/afc/miami-dolphins/

  As you can see, more than just the tagged posts are displayed. Perhaps I am missing something, but can someone please explain how this is possible?

  That is a VIP blog, which costs I believe $2600 to set up and $600 per month.
