Custom Color boxes in post editor
-
I am a recent convert from Google’s Blogger platform…
I am using the Parament theme and while I can define a custom color in the post editor for the specific post, upon saving and returning to the post, the custom color is gone.
If I upgrade to the Premium plan, will this allow the custom colors to “stick” between editing sessions? Will there also be a larger palette to select from in the Premium Plan?
Also, will upgrading to Premium allow me visual mode (vs. text mode) access to change fonts (e.g. default to Courier) and font sizes (e.g. “small”, “normal”, “large”, “huge”).
Basically what I am asking here is will there be more TinyMCE Advanced functionality in the post editor if I move to the Premium Plan?
Thank you in advance

Hi there! Welcome to WordPress.com! :D
Can you tell me what exact code you’re trying to use to change the color? Or direct me to a post where this is working correctly?

Hi Shawna,
I’ve made a post for you on the blog called “Sample Post for Shawna” – I’ve outlined the steps I’ve done for adding the custom color and steps to make it disappear from the color picker.
Any possibilty that TinyMCE Advanced would be available in the Premium offering??

Thanks so much for that write up! I’ve reported it to our developers. I’ll let you know when I hear back from them. :)
The editor is the same no matter which level subscription you have.
Let me know if you have any more questions! :)

Hi Shawna,
Thank you for the quick response! If your developers need to tweak some code, would it *possible* (please, please, please) to have another dropdown in the post editor to define the size of the font (tiny, normal, large, huge) – this could be modified in the CSS if you upgrade to the Premium plan.
Overall, I am very happy with the move from Blogger – just a few little things that are a little clunky here. I guess I could always write it blogger and copy/paste, but I’d much prefer to do all my stuff in WordPress!

This is not included in core WordPress’s editor. I’ll add it as a suggestion for WordPress.com, but we likely won’t add it unless core WordPress does.
As a sidenote for you, you can add these types of styles inline if you’d like. Although it makes it hard to change them if you change your mind later.
Also, as a follow up on my previous post, the custom color palette being cleared also happens in core WordPress, so I’ve moved my report to WordPress.org’s Trac system. You can follow the thread here:

Shawna – you’re a peach! Thank you!
I do believe the little extra font processing is in TinyMCE Advanced. Now, having a more robust post editor would be something I’d definitely upgrade to Premium for! Nothing super special – just let me change the size of the font via dropdown and give me a few options for type itself (Courier, sans-serif (WordPress can select), serif (WordPress can select))

You can definitely change the font and font size with the Premium plan, but it doesn’t get added as a setting in the editor. It changes the default for your entire site. Maybe this will suit your needs?

Hi Shawna,
Nope – there are times I need to put in a “newspaper article” or “text message” so I need to switch between a “regular” and a courier font in the same blog entry.

Ahh. Well, I can think of a way to do that with some custom CSS which is also available via the Premium plan. I totally understand why having that option in your editor would be the easiest solution for you. I’ve added your use case to the suggestion I posted. :)
