custom cropping in Skylark image gallery thumbnails?

  I’m setting up several image galleries on my customized Skylark blog to function as a portolio, but I am running into a problem. I’ve tried to post this to get a staff answer but have not had an luck. Since my work is both horizontal and vertical, I would like the full images to be seen in the image carousel view but I’d like to show a detail of the images for the thumbnail. It would also be good to be able to custom crop the detail. I can’t seem to find any way to do this. Right now, whatever the thumbnail is, I find it baffling given that you can crop images when posted anywhere else on WordPress. Can you please advise me?
