Custom Design – Background Image Not Displaying Properly

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi.

I’ve tried loading several different images to use as the background to my blog, but none seem to be displaying properly.

Ho can I get the image to display predictably – filling the whole page, not zooming in on only part of the image, etc.?

    Thanks.

    Noah.

    Hello there, Noah!

Could you send me a link to the image you’re trying to use? I don’t see the non-functioning background currently installed on your site, so it’s tough for me to troubleshoot the issue.

You will find the theme’s specification at the bottom of the support page:
    https://wordpress.com/themes/penscratch/

That might give you a hint as to the necessary width of your image.

If those numbers help, great! Otherwise, drop me a line with more details and I’m happy to assist.

    Thanks much.

    Hi.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

I had an image that I wanted to use as a background. I found a nice stock photo, and wanted it to fit to the frame/screen. Every time I uploaded it, it zoomed in on a portion of the image, without showing many of the details along the outer edges. It was driving me nuts.

I tried sizing it every which way. Square, rectangle – both portrait and landscape, and nothing worked. I tried uploading a few different images in probably 40 – 50 different configurations. I couldn’t find any information anywhere – either on the WordPress site, or online – to show me how to properly size the image.

Finally, today, I bought a new stock photo to try. At first, I ran into the same problems. Then, I tried downloading the same image in a different size/dimensions (Istock now offers different sizes of the same image at the same price, and once you pay for one, you can download the rest), and it worked. I don’t know why it worked, but it did.

I think it would be very helpful if there were specific instructions – either on WordPress itself or in specific themes (I couldn’t find the info in the Penscratch theme link you sent me). In my web searches, I saw that a lot of people were struggling with the same issue, and nobody had a real answer.

    Thanks!

    Noah.

    Noah,

Thank you so much for letting me know how you fixed your issue. I hope your detailed account will assist others in the forums who are struggling with the same issue.

I agree that the image specification should be on the site’s support page. In most situations, it is. I’m sorry you came upon one of the examples where the information was lacking. I’ll look into it.

It sounds like you’re all set now, but if I can assist in any other way, please do let me know. Thank you very much!
