Custom Design Needed with Premium Theme?

So another probably simple question that I can’t figure out for sure. Do you need to buy the custom design upgrade for 30$ if you buy a premium theme that says it COMES with custom design?

Yes, we need Custom Design upgrade even to customize a premium theme. Most of the upgrades are per blog, per year.
Which theme mentions it comes with custom design? Could you please link it?

There are none ie. not a single theme here that provides the ability to customize any theme to the degree that the custom design upgrade provides for.
WordPress.com sells bundles upgrades. We can “preview” changes in the theme customizer that do not actually display on the blog unless we purchase the upgrade.
If you have not purchased the custom design upgrade note that no changes you try out aside from those such as Custom Background, Custom Header, etc. which are stated on the theme description pages in the features column (right hand side) will be visible to visitors.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-fonts/If you are using the preview mode for the Custom Design upgrade some of the settings in that mode will save but they won’t show up on the front end unless you purchase the upgrade.
To go back to the free options, go to Appearance → Themes → Customize → Colors and click the “exit the preview” link in yellow at the top of the panel on the right.

OK thanks so I need it either way.
My only other question is – if I were to purchase say that Healthy Living theme which does have a sidebar where I can put an image and it looks a lot nicer than the one I have now and there would be so many more options for me in terms of customizing the site…am I able to do little things I want like for instance with that healthy living theme I could get rid of that “socialize” bit down below “about me” on the right side and instead add in social media buttons above my image? (which is what I want)??
Just wondering if I will be able to do that sort of thing if I spend the money on this new theme.

You will have spend money on Healthy Living theme plus on custom design upgrade to be able to make those changes.
If you only have to buy one thing, I suggest custom to buy design upgrade because then you can customize any free theme using it.
Please be aware that custom design upgrade is yearly subscription whereas the premium theme is yours forever once you buy it.
