Custom DNS

  Hi there,
  I am in the process of mapping my wordpress site to an existing domain. I found the support guides very helpful, but am a little confused regarding the custom DNS changes regarding my mail. At the moment my domain is registered and hosted at 123-reg. I know that I have to change the nameservers at 123 first to the wordpress ones and add the domain in the wordpress control panel (I haven’t done anything yet for fear of doing it wrong).
  But my confusion is with regards to the A and MX records – do I obtain the A and MX records on 123 and enter them in the wordpress interface? Is it as simple as copy and paste? I really need some advice on this, as it’s my business website and I would like to do the whole thing with as little disruption to my emailing as possible.
