Custom Domain

So I am wanting to change my domain to a custom one, but I have followers on my current blog. Is there any way to import my data and followers from my .wordpress.com site to a custom website through wordpress? Also, if I did get a custom domain through wordpress, it is doing all the hosting and everything for only $18 a year right? Or is there a separate fee for hosting?

Custom Domain just changes your site address. It does not move the site itself. So your subscribers, followers, and your blog content would all remain the same.
You are anyway hosting on WordPress.com for free with or without custom domain. So $18 is just for the custom domain. There is no additional charge for hosting unless you want to go beyond the free account limits like 3 GB of storage space etc.

“New domain” might just mean a different whatever.wordpress.com domain. That’s not what you want, from the sounds of it.

No, its not. From the looks of things, I can change my domain name for the blog to whatever I want, and it will update everything. Though I’m not 100%. I don’t know if it would sync my followers, as its no longer fully a WordPress site. Not a huge issue I guess though, as I do not have very many followers.

Custom or new domain, only the site’s address changes. The site is still hosted on WordPress.com free plan (unless upgraded).
So address change does not move the site itself. So your subscribers, followers, and your blog content would all remain the same.
