custom domain

  Hi
  I used to have a custom domain cookwithanisa.com via wix and I have since transferred that to 1and1 hosting .. How do I now associate cookwithanisa.com to my WordPress site cookwithanisa.wordpress.com

  I’ve paid for the transfer this evening with 1and1 Hosting and also upgraded my WordPress package to premium.

  Not sure if i’ve made a mess of things?

  Hi @cookwithanisa, no worries, we’ll help you though.

  I can see right now you have your “A” record set to point at our name servers. That won’t work quite right.

  You will want to edit the domain’s settings, find the name servers, and use these:

  ns1.wordpress.com

  ns2.wordpress.com

  ns3.wordpress.com

  After you’ve saved those changes, wait a few hours for them to take effect.

  Thank you so much for your reply.
  The name servers seem to be greyed out and not unable to change.
  So I emailed Wix, and they replied as follows:

  Thank you for contacting Wix Support.

  To connect your Wix domain to an external site, contact your site host and ask for the IP address that the domain should point to.

  Once you have obtained the IP address, you need to:

  Delete your domain’s CNAME records.
  Edit your existing A record by replacing the existing IP address to the IP address provided by your new site hosting company.
  Create two new A records. Enter the Host records exactly as they were entered under CNAME (i.e. one is www and the other m), but under Points to, enter the new IP address entered for the A record in step 2.

  Note: In the end, you are left with three A records, all pointing to the IP address obtained from your site host.

  Important:

  It is not possible to connect a Wix domain to an external site by changing your domain’s name servers. If you would like to connect your domain using this method, you must first transfer it to another domain host.

  Also the transfer of the domain name to 1and1.com is still in process and will take a few more days .. Do the above steps still need to be in place, after the transfer has completed?

  Hi @Anisa , after the transfer, I’m sure you can update the name servers. I’ll email with the current IP addresses for the meantime, though.

  Thank you so much for your email. I had to transfer from Wix back to the registrar (Network Solutions) as Wix dont allow dns amendments ..

  Transfer finally completed this evening and I added those NS1, NS2, NS3 dns entries.

  I think I just need to wait a few hours now, is that right?

  Where do I add those ip addresses you kindly sent me, I added them as A records on my WordPress domain page, was that correct?

  Hi @cookwithanisa, sorry I missed this earlier. Once the domain points here, you don’t need to update the A records at all – we’ll take care of it for you.

  Everything’s working now, but it may be a few hours before your computer recognizes the changes. Cheers :)
