Custom Domain & Free WordPress Plan

  Hi! I just want to know/confirm the following domains:

  1. I cannot use a custom domain UNLESS I upgrade to at least a Personal Plan (I can’t use a custom domain on a free plan)?

  2. If I start as a free plan user, then upgrade to a paid plan with a custom domain, will my site statistics reset under the custom domain or will everything remaining as is, as well as all the comments, likes and views and be migrated to the new custom domain?

  Before you can add a custom domain, you need to purchased a WordPress.com plan and also note that all upgraded plans comes with free domain for one year: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

  2. If I start as a free plan user, then upgrade to a paid plan with a custom domain, will my site statistics reset under the custom domain or will everything remaining as is, as well as all the comments, likes and views and be migrated to the new custom domain?
  When you upgrade a free WordPress.com plan to a paid WordPress.com plan all your stats: comments, likes and views would be accessible as usual from your new domain name.

  Hi! Thanks for the response. I just want to make it clear, what if I have already purchased my own domain from an external registrar and I want to use it on my site… but my WordPress plan is only FREE, is that possible? Even if I have already purchased my own domain?

  You can use you already exiting domain name you have already purchased from an external registrar with your WordPress.com website. However, you’ll need to have an upgraded plan to do a domain mapping. Please read more about the process from here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/

  You’ll still be able to access your stats when you change your domain name. If there is any issue a WordPress support staff will be able to resolve them for you.
