Custom Domain Name

I own the domain debbieroes.com and am trying to use that for my debbieroes.wordpress.com site. On this page, it indicates that this option is included in the Personal Plan, which is $2.99 per month:

There is also the option to Map a Domain via the back-end of my website and that is listed as $13. However, when I tried to do this, I was directed to pay $99 for a premium plan, which I do not want. I’m purposely moving my sites from self-hosted WordPress to WordPress.com to avoid high costs for sites that are not income-generating. I’m okay with $13 per year or even the $35 per year for a personal plan, but I do not wish to pay the $99 per year for this particular site.
Please advise. If I need to just do a domain redirect from debbieroes.com to debbieroes.wordpress.com, I will do that. I just want to better understand what my options are. Thank you.

I believe the $13 is for additional domains. To map the first domain you definitely need an upgraded plan. The default appears to be the Premium plan but the Personal plan will be sufficient. Buy that first. It is $35.88 paid annually in advance. Once you have paid for that then a domain credit will be added to your account. You can then use that domain credit to map the domain you already own. https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

Thank you so much for your reply, Magic Robot. I will do that and hopefully it will work! I want to do domain mapping for both of my sites, but I only want to use the Personal plan for one of them. Hopefully I will able to just pay the $13 for the domain mapping on the second site. We’ll see… I appreciate your help!

I have upgraded my other site (recoveringshopaholicblog.wordpress.com) to a Personal Plan.
However, when I went back to debbieroes.wordpress.com to try to map the domain, I am still being prompted to pay $99! Do I have to upgrade this site to a Personal Plan, too, in order to do the domain mapping?
I got the free domain mapping with my other site (recoveringshopaholicblog.wordpress.com), but I am using it for that site to map to recoveringshopaholic.com, which I own.

Adding a domain to your site (either registering a new domain or mapping one you already own) requires a WordPress.com plan. Each plan comes with one free domain credit. However, you can setup additional domains on the same site as add-on upgrades.
The $13/$18 refers to additional domains on the same site. You have separate sites so they need separate plans for domains/domain mapping.

Thank you. Okay, now I understand. I will need to at least upgrade to a personal plan in order to map debbieroes.com to debbieroes.wordpress.com. I will do that today. I appreciate your help.
