Custom Domain Questions
-
I have been pondering getting a custom domain for my blog, but I want to make sure I understand it all. I almost feel like I will be going over my head if I take this step.
I ran into this thread:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/questions-about-domain-mapping-redirection-pagerank-and-more?replies=14So I understand I start at zero with the new domain. I can live with that, because reading down the comments they wrote of using Google’s webmaster tools. I am not sure I am ready to try that. Sounds confusing.
Now what will happen to my followers, most importantly my email followers who do not have WordPress accounts? Will the emailed posts still arrive as they do already? Will any of the features I use now change in any way? Spam filters, etc. I know I still need to follow the TOS, so am hoping the Dashboard and such will not change. I did read this page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/register-domain/
Because of the mapping, would it be wise to change the links within my post, or are they ok as is? I know there are a couple people who link to my blog, so I will contact them.
Also, if I have any scheduled posts, when I change over, what will happen with those, since they generate the links when I start working on them. Currently, I have scheduled posts 5 days out.
I am sure I am forgetting something… Thank you for any and all help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The reason we purchase domain mapping is so that all the URLs from the .wordpress.com root blog when clicked seamlessly redirect to the same content in the post under the new domain URLs.
The pagerank and authority the blog earned was earned by the .wordpress.com URLs and belongs to them. It’s not transferable. so what that means is the domain starts from zero. In about 4 – 6 months time the content will all be re-indexed by search engines under the domain URLs and all things being equal the blog will probably have the same pagerank and authority it had prior to purchasing domain mapping. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/register-domain/
If you do not renew your domain mapping then all those domain URL’s are broken and the blog reverts to the old .wordpress.com URLs. Then all those broken links are there for months until the search engines like Google index them again under the .wordpress.com URLs and clear their caches (3 – 6 months).

I don’t know the answer to this question as I use Feedburner for email subscripitions and they continued as before.

None of that changes at all.

You are paying for those links to be properly domain mapped to the new domain URLs. Yes, your can contact all those who link to your .wordpress.com URL in their blogrolls and ask them to change the link to the domain URL. I published a post to prepare my readers for the change and most complied and changed the links. The links that appeared everywhere else on the interent, for example, in Google search results seamlessly redirected to my domain URL.

I don’t have an answer for this question either as I don’t schedule posts.

Thank you so much for all the help you have been to me, timethief, since I joined WordPress. I appreciate the time you take to give detailed answers. :)
For the questions you did not know the answers to, I filled out a contact form for the staff. Hopefully, I will hear from them soon. Now that our temperatures are warming up, it is turning into the season of our disconnect. This happens every spring and summer. It will be difficult to do much online. We’ve already had two drops today. I wish you could help me with that…

Youre welcome. Please be patient while waiting for Staff to answer. This is why. When we create a support ticket by contacting Staff it’s important to understand they have a backlog. They deal with the support tickets with the earliest dates first. So if we contact them more than once of the same issue the date moves forward and it takes longer to get help.

Thank you for letting me know. I can wait. :) I’ll find something to keep me occupied. I’ve let a few things slip while working on my blog.

Hi friends,
I host 2 wordpress.com blogs and more highly trafficked (alzinwonderland.com) has been attacked by Spam.I am not an experienced blogger and I would like the spam to be quarantined asap. And thank you in advance.
Please advise,
AKSp.s. the spam I found is on the “Disclaimer” page of my block. It is in the form of a highlighted word (I did not highlight) and when one rolls over the word w/ the mouse, it opens a window for a free iPad.

Will you please email Staff support @ wordpress.com
The spaces need to be removed from the email address of course. I had to put them in so this would display on the forum.
