Custom domain registration

  I am trying to change my domain a .com address from the .wordpress.com address. I was expecting to pay $18, but it looks like I actually have to upgrade to a plan for $8.25 per month. In the past I have registered domains for just $18. How can I do that again?

  to use custom domain you need to buy wordpress premium so they are asking to for monthly payment.
